On an 11S you'd have an easier time just finding a cat elminator pipe instead.

I agree with Serg.

If you are to expect power from removing the cat, you'll have to spend the money for a Techlusion or other fuel mapping mod. There isn't too much to gain for my use to afford one and move away from the good mpgs I get.

Though I did keep the cat in one iteration and swapped out the pipes for for some TBR cans. The sound is a good sound to keep the neighbor's happy. It's very similar to a cat eliminator with the stock cans. If you want a lot of sound, find a cat eliminator and cans. Personally, I like the stock quiet for a lot of reasons revolving around how I use my bike. The TBR cans are a nice little-louder sound. As far as quality, a pretty nice sound was coming from R111S's ZTechnik setup when I heard it.

Some argue that the cat builds a lot of heat around the transmission. Though true, it hasn't bothered the bike I have at 97K, stock clutch and everything. But heat reduction is a nice side-effect of elminating.

I'd spring for the cat elim pipe so you could reap the benefits of getting rid of the box down there. Otherwise, you're doing a lot of trouble for no benefit other than some increased noise.

And it might be a tough job - that cat box is pretty rugged.

I also have left it stock. In a touring bike, quieter the better.

I originally gutted both the cat and mufflers, not for performance, but for better sound, it was louder, but still had that flat "wet fart" sound. After a few months I went with Staintunes, for the QUALITY of the sound.

Just bite the bullet and get a cat eliminator, and if you can swing it a set of cans too.
