Ordered a new pickup about 5 weeks ago, and it just arrived. I'm pretty happy.

Cool, I have heard that black is the fastest. Also you will save money because you don't have to run the heater as much.

Enjoy

Great desert egg cooker too. No need for a frying pan anymore.

Nice 5er

Craig,

Funny thing is that cup holders (ha!) aside....it's better - and better looking, than 90 percent of new cars out there. Safer, too!

Flame on!

However, after having three other Wranglers, a '56 Willy's Jeep, a '69 Chevy Blazer with Corvette engine, and three other Toyota Jeeps, this is the nicest ride I've ever owned!
It's still purposeful, but I can actually put stuff in it...

We picked up a new car yesterday. This is my wife's car, but I will get to drive it sometimes.

We were shopping for a Jetta, but the Passat TDI is more comfortable, just slightly larger, and gets better mileage than the TDI Jetta or Golf, I am still trying to figure that one out.

Here is it.

I really like this car.

I really like the 2005 TDI Passat I own. It's been a really good car. The R1100S oil filter wrench is a perfect fit for the oil filter cap of the cartridge filter of the Passat.

Passat, Suzuki Swift, VW transporter

We had a 2002 Passat with the 5 cylinder petrol engine. Bought used in 2009 with 20,000km, it was great for comfort and quiet, not as powerfull as I'd have liked though.

What got us down and led to us just about giving it away was the dumb things that broke and cost a mint to repair. I am thinking this is an Australian thing though. USA prices seem quite a bit more reasonable.

Passenger side door locks - $800
Rear disks, brake pads on all four corners (with just 25000 km on the clock!) $2500
Set of spark plugs - $125 (Sheesh, must have been made from gold mined in Wales)
finally, the coils on each plug started going one at a time at $120 each, had replaced two and drove it to the dealership as a trade in just as a third one went. Traded on a little jewel of a Suzuki Swift for the wife. It has all the accessories that the Passat had except for cruise control. Even has push button start.

Bugger, can't find a photo of it here at work. This is nearly identical though.

My 2009 VW Transporter cab/chassis with the 128 KW turbo diesel is a gem. Love it. The radio antenna option lends a bit of wind resistance though. (The Dish, at Parkes, from the movie of the same name).

Hopefully the TDI Passat will be a good car. They have been making the 2.0TDI for a while and I have read a lot of good reviews. My son did find one issue. It has a six speed transmission, but got the wrong knob. My wife and I laughed as neither of us noticed, but when she mentioned it had a six speed he wanted to argue, and his proof was the knob.

But it is a six speed and the dealer is going to get the correct knob.

Wrong Knob? That's funny! Hope that was the only thing.

I saw on Discovery last night where VW has built a new plant in the USA just to produce the Passat. I think ours came from Mexico, my brother baught a new Jetta in ?? 2002 (not sure) which was built in Germany, no issues - has been a solid reliable car.
