Well.... I should say cartridges.

To me, cool is a moving coil cartridge. I'd love to move up to a moving coil instead of magnet but that would be like putting racing tires on a Chevy Cavalier. My rig may not see any benefit from it.

As far as what are the "cool ones".... That is subjective. Ortofon, Audio Technica, Denon are usually the sure bets. I'm looking to get a Denon or Ortofon next. I have a highly modified Technics SL1200 and am interested in a cartridge that has less high end bias than the one I am currently using for everything.

If you're looking to score points and impress people just spend the most money I guess. It's pretty ridiculous.

Those prices are insane. No way could my ears tell enough difference.

If you haven't considered it, you may want to add Dynavector to your wish-list of cool carts around 500$. Their DV 10x5 is great MC cart in that price-range, you can get it in either Low or High Output depending on what pre-amp you're using... It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but you may like it once you try it...

Not to hijack the clunker thread too much but the situation is a bit more complex...

In order for 10K$ cartridge to shine, you have to have rest of your audio system up to the level in order for your ears to hear the difference: cartridge -> tonearm -> turntable -> turntable power supply -> preamp -> amp -> speakers... Then, don't forget the cables between all and list goes on and on and on...

If some of the upper end turntables have passed 25K$ price, you can imagine what the rest of the audio system may cost...

And now, we can go back to clunkers and donkeys talk...

I was eyeballing one of those... Might make a move next year but I need to read up a little more on MCs in general. I just spent some loot on some upgrades for the R12S and I'm looking for a used dual sport so it might be a minute. I think I want a tube power amp first as well....

I'm using a Project ii tube preamp. I was rolling tubes and finally settled on some NOS Mullards.

There is definitely a curve of diminishing returns on money spent and a LOT of snake oil out there targeting idiots with money to burn.

Ok... Right.... enough hijacking.

PM me if you have anything you may want to trade or sell.

Those tailors that sewed the emperor's new clothes are still at work in the motorcycle accessory and high end stereo industries.

Haven’t stopped by in quite awhile, but reminded to do so by a birthday greeting today from the website. Flying to Sweden in a few days to pick up my new cage and also to take a cruise down the Rhine. 70 is older, but I’m not too old...lol.

Cheers to all you fine folks!
