OT. Formula 1 starts next weekend

This should probably be in another forum , and if Roger sees fit to move it so be it , but I am salivating like Pavlov's dogs at the prospect of a new F1 season starting .

All being well I will be back from New Zealand and at Albert Park in Melbourne for the start of a season which has seen more rule changes that most in the pre-season .

Sure the richest teams will probably adapt the quickest to the rule changes and maintain the Staus Quo but a guy can dream of an upset result can't he ?

PS. BMW are running two cars painted much like the S1000RR in WSBK

After Ayrton I barely can see any excuse to watch F1 (re-defines the term boring and/or the art of pointless. If you want action with monopostos > US racing)

...let alone that the FIA bombed them with a set of ludicrous rule changes in the last minute... the F1 has long lost it's luster...

Looks like implementation of the new method for selecting a champion has been delayed for a year. I prefer the points system to the proposed method using the number of wins.

Should be a good season. I have seen every race since about 99. While F1 is not as exciting to watch as WSB or MOTO GP, it is still better than NASCAR!

I will be at Albert Park next week and there is some exciting stuff in the wings.
If I can use a MotoGP simile, imagine if Marco Melandri's 'Hayate' had dominated pre-season testing, and that Ducati was mid-pack and that Valentino was struggling so badly that he was behind Colin Edwards.
That is what has happened over the winter; Honda pulled the pin, Brawn GP took over that team at the last possible moment and its cars have not just been impressive in testing, they have been sensational. On the other hand, BMW and Renault have both said that they will be able to use the new KERS energy recovery systems, so it is a question of whether they will risk it or not.
The new FIA rules will be thrown out, they were pretty ridiculous. A bit like deciding that since Mark McGwire is such a big guy, he can only take 3 bases if he hits it over the wall in left field.
After a few races, Ferrari and McLaren will probably sort out their stuff and go back to winning races. But for now, it is pretty unpredictable, so it should be fun.

Wow , that was one of the more exciting qualifying sessions I have seen for some time and what a mixed up grid .Really looking forward to being at Albert Park tomorrow for what after Q appears may be the start of an interesting season , if the cars can pass as well as they can qualify it will be worth watching.

Lost interest when Bernie E and his Jet-Set crowd pulled the USGP from Watkins Glen and moved it to a parking lot in Lost-Wages (went from 250,000 spectators at the Glen, to a few people that looked out of their hotel windows to see what all the noise was) Just so he could sleep in 5 star hotels and rub elbows with the elite.

i heard that f1 was changing their rules, so that points were out the window, and whoever won the most races would be crowned champion.
did that ever go into effect? maybe it's a 2010 rule?
and if so, just how friggin' boring will the last few races be?

if we applied those rules to supercross, james stewart would be champ with half a dozen races left to go, and chad reed (the current series points leader) would be back home in AUS.

Well I'm sure that Bernie (the puppet master) can elaborate rules to keep the boat afloat...(with regard the broad audience) but the boat is ugly/empty anyway.

PS: indeed AP qualifying had some surprises (but I predict that soon the business could settle in the known duel - red or silver?).

PS: kinetic energy recover stuff in "cars" worth 10M ? (in a show worth 1000M). I like Bernie's Save The Earth consensus...

Does anyone know of a place on-line to watch the F1 Race?

Thanks!
