Hello everyone. I found this site looking for a BMW R1100S specific forum. I began my venture into BMW motorcycle ownership with the purchase of a 2006 BMW F650GS 2 years ago. Shortly after I joined the Chain Gang over at F650.com (great site for F650 owners!).
After a while I found that the majority of my riding was highway. And I saw that a member of the local BMW motorcycle club I belong to had an R1100S. I never saw one of these bikes before seeing his. I instantly knew that it was the bike for me. Wednesday of this week I travelled to Pittsburgh, PA to take deliver of a 2002 BMW R1100S. And since then we have had nothing but rain! Aggghhh... I can't wait to take this bike out for a good ride. Today I will be dropping the F650GS off at the local dealer to be shipped out to South Dakota to it's new owner. I'll miss it. It was/is a great bike. But I'm happy to own the R1100S. I have quite a few questions already but wanted to introduce myself first. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I love it, some one as paranoid as me. Great bike. Are you sure the tie down straps are strong enough?

That's SWEET.
Are you sure that's not Steve's old bike?

Thanks everyone. That's my dad's truck. The straps were a little over-kill... but definitely did the job. Here's some photos I took today. Finally had a chance to get out with no rain and enjoy the bike a little.

Looks like we have another photographer in our ranks from the composure of those shots.

congrats,
man that looks like the bike bingo sold. great bike. be sure to get a screen for the air scoops to protect the oil cooler from rocks. you can get the material from office max. Look at the metal waste paper baskets. Look for the ones with the 2mm hole screen. They come in black and silver. That will cost you $6.00. If you buy one they will cost you $30-60. jeff

Jeff, I want to put some protection in my air scoops too. Do you know I need to remove any fairing to do that or can I just press or wedge it in and get by?

@Jeff Cool idea for the screen. I had done something similar to my Honda Civic grill with some gutter screen. Thanks for the tip!

yep, they won't be a true rectangle as the inner side is deeper than the outer edge. steps: 1 pick the screen color. 2 cut the rectangle for each hole about an inch larger than the inside hole. 3 make a cut toward the center about 1/2 inch on all corners. 4 push the rectangle on the inside lip molding the shape on to the screen,(the cuts make a better bend for the corners). 5 trim 6 silicone them on, wait until dry then assemble. 7 have fun it should take about an hour to cut and glue. jeff

Welcome designer. How many miles on your 11S. It's a great sport bike that you can tour on as well. Start saving up for some Ohlins. You'll really love the ride they'll give you. Very clean bike just lookin t the pictures. Bring it over to the RA rally in WV and meet some of us Pleicans who show up.
I ran the M3's on my 11S also and really liked their performance. Last edited by Guest24; 05-03-2009 at 07:10 PM.. |
