yet another "is this noise normal" thread
 

It seems our bikes make lots of strange noises, but none of the ones I could find described match the one I have.

During slow speed maneuvers, if I disengage the clutch (fully), there is an audible "clanck". The "clank" is also transmitted to the bars in the from of a minor vibration. There is a lesser "clank" when the clutch is reengaged.

The noise is most noticeable in the parking garage at work, so the echos probably magnify the noise. My earplugs probably have the opposite effect outside the garage.

I got the bike with just under 1200 kms, it's now got ~1700

The bike shifts fine, the clutch engages well, and I haven't had any problems with performance.

I think I just need reassurance it's not assign of imminent failure, and a suggestion to the source. Or of course, if I need to seek a remedy if it is a problem.

I've noticed that too, from day one. Even though the clutch grabs and disengages with a clank, it operates smoothly. I've done 24k km with it, 50% town traffic with lot of clutch use and it's still the same, so I assume it's normal behavior.

More than likely, what you're hearing is the driveline slop/play being taken up when the clutch is let out, and subsequently released from tension when clutch is pulled in. Lots of little slop in all the gears. Under no load conditions everything just sort of flopping around, under load all the free play is taken up from the tranny and the rear drive, hence the clank.
If the noise never gets worse, things aren't falling off, and everything's working peachy, I'd consider it normal and cease worrying.
