Tires - 2ct not bad...

Just replaced the 2CT on the R12S, rear, for the first time.

Got 4100 miles out of the 2CT, usually only 2200-2600 for the PP non-2CT.

I think cost-wise it works out pretty close, but less tire changes.

Those 190s are tough to do on the HF unit with no help.

It's that particular rim, Tony... after a couple of changes, you'll get the hang. The rim does not have a deep valley in which you can push the tire on the side opposing the bar... that makes a huge difference...

Tony, which tires have you run from start to finish with your R1200S? I've typically gotten 3,500-4,000 with PPs on mine, as good as Z6s for me. I like the M3s better and am willing to take the 500 mile shorter lifespan. But if you're getting 50-80% more miles out of PP 2CTs, that's an eye opener. The 2CTs are only about $13 more than the M3s for a pair, and they probably perform better, too.

Ralf, I think you're right. I don't remember having that difficulty with the PVMs.

Steve, I've used the PP and the PP2CT on the R1200S so far. I put on a set of regular Pilot Powers when I first got the bike and now these 2CTs. The Pilot Powers seem to last a little longer on the R12 than the R11, maybe because of the 180 vs. 190 widths.

I'll have to try the 2CTs next time. Could wind up being more miles than I've ever seen from sport tires.

What about these No-Mar Xtra Hands for helping with the narrow wheel valley?

They came with my NoMar and work great, Steve.

The best feature about the 2CT's is that they don't wear flat in the center like the M-3 or Qualifiers.

Yeah, I ran Pilot Powers about 3 times on my R1100S and got between 3,500-4,000 before replacing both together.

Most I ever got was 2800 miles... that was the first tire (M1)... the second one only lasted about 1800 miles and it was evenly gone (BT020) the third was a PP that lasted about 2000 now I am running M3's and they only have about 600 (front) and 140 (rear) on them... I'll have to see how that will go, but I do believe that I will not finish these tires, as the bike is (more or less) sold.

I have the 2ct's

I had M3's and liked them.

These 2ct's seem good and have not shown any wear yet, after only 1000kms I spose you wouldn't see much. I like the pattern better than the M3's - just personal.

Been to the track with them and they seemed good there too.

Some say the threshold/point where things go bad, tyre breaks loose leant over...comes suddenly. I think TM or CG spoke of that, can't remember! but I don't practice riding leant over near the threshold so I don't see it as an issue.

And it probably wasn't even in regards to this tyre - if memory deosn't serve me correct, like usual

Jonas, I'd have concerns about this tire's ability to move water away from the contact patch. Do they have test data running it on wet pavement? Here in the Southeast US, you can run into a shower with very little notice. I'm going to the M3's the next tire change on the HP2S. They make the 190/55.

I'm running M3 front and Z6 rear. They will both be worn out at about 4,000 miles or a little more. That is with mostly 2 up riding moderately aggressive but safe, precious cargo you know. Just might have to try the 2ct's next.

I always thought the center part of the tread was the same on the PP & PP2CT, so I'd think wear would be comparable. You ARE talking PP 2CT and not Pilot Road 2CT, right?

I was thinking the same thing, but the text in that link mentioned different versions of the tire. I found the Michelin Power One website, but so far all it is is a cool configurator. But the street tire looks the same.

Guys, by ALL indications, that Tire written about in the article is going to be VERY impractical for the street... it seems to be a tire for the most demading sportbike rider... Track-Application mainly...

These tires will take considerable abuse to heat up to proper temperature and the longevity will be questionable at best for street application...

The simple fact that they offer different compounds, indicates that the "average" rider (in this case I'd include myself in that group) should leave that tire on the shelf...

According to the website Steve found, there will be a street version... but I'd wait (and don't hold your breath!)

I'd venture to say that only the slightest few on here really need this kind of tire and only in the fewest of situations... if you live in a temperature range where you can expect 80 and up every day and if you really have twisties galore with very little traffic, go for it...

If not, PP's, M3's, BT's and whatever else is out there... will do the job just fine... as it were!

In all reality, even at the track, pushing real hard, I barely ever had a problem with tires... the few times I had on the street, where usually pressure issues.

Well that was my question to the tire people at the Stockholm motorcycle exhibition a few weeks back.

But aparently the power one street tire is the one to have if you're doing track time!

If you never go to the track - go with the 2ct's because, as you say, they will have better wet grip.

But the power one will use the same silica-compound in it, so it will heat as quick as the pp2ct's did - which was QUICK - and also have a good grip on the wet, but not as good as the pp2ct!

But if I would choose a tire based on wet-riding, I would definately go for the 2CT's!

Other than that, for a street tire, I've hear good reviews about that pirelli rosso diablo corsa deviliavolo tagliatelle vesuvio ... what the heck it's called!! (Why can't they make tires that you can actually spell!) ;-)
