Miller Motorsport Park WSBK Race

Anyone been to or planning on attending the WSBK race at the Miller Motorsport Park in Utah? Does this event draw a large crowd? Seems to be an out of the way location.

It was a well attended event last year. Stands were full, spectators lined the fences, motorhome parking was filled, etc. It was also a well run event... saw where it was awarded the best run WSBK venue/location for '08. All the manufacturers had serious pavilions. BMW is planning a sizeable presence this year. Had a great time there.

If anyone here is going to Miller for WSB, do you have any recommendations where to stay? I wonder how far from Salt lake City the track is. Long range logistics...

I'd like to go but I have a huge aversion to crowds, which is why I live where I live. Not at the race, but Salt Lake and the traffic in and out of the race...

Here's a link for the track though. You can probably glean lots of information from it: http://www.millermotorsportspark.com/

after the strong start Spies has this year and not wanting to subject my less-than-healthy self to the insanity of laguna I'm putting a package together to go to WSB.
Only variable is whether I'm riding down or flying. I'd rather ride and my wife is pushing me to fly, but barring major malfunction, I'm gonna be there to hopefully watch Elbows do the 'your-a-peeins' in

Anyone note that the AMA (however bad this year) has just cancelled their portion of the wsbk/ama show there? Shame.
Actually, a complete pisser, as I thought I might make it this year, since for once, the AMA's last round is not on top of our own last round. Might still do it, but a bit less attractive now.

On the plus side, Hopper has just added, and looks to be on one of the better privateer bikes. Could make it more interesting still, at least to we yanks.

I'm booked at the Peery Hotel in SLC. From the hotel to the track Mapquest is showing 32 miles. Lots of lodging in SLC.
Never been to SLC before, the Peery Hotel looked neat. Built in 1910, on the National Register, steakhouse inside and a Macaroni Grill too.

I have approval from the boss to go to the race, wohoo. Not sure how fun the roads are between here and Salt lake, so I think this is a good trip for the truck.

Anyone else planning on tent camping at the track? Camping is next door at the desertpeak complex.

http://www.deseretpeakcomplex.com/

I just got off the phone with them and the girl I spoke to said last year not many people camped, they have lots of space, no need for reservations. That makes me nervous, but I am naturally nervous.

Camping is on the multipurpose field which is on the right side of this map. Anyone else going to camp?

Google Earth.

I have a room at the Airport Inn Thus nite thru Sun nite, don't have a clue where it is. I plan to ride my R1200ST from here to Salt Lake. Not a bad ride once you get to Page Az then 89 on up.

Sorry Dean, I deleted my stupid question after I re-read your post and saw you had a room Thursday-Sunday.

A 1 day ride puts me at 900 miles the scenic route. That is probably not too bad. I could break it up by camping somewhere in southern Utah. My job puts me in hotels enough, something like this I like to camp, and after talking with the folks that run the place on the phone it sounds like a good deal. Plus a couple beers is okay when I can walk back to camp.

google map route from my place

Bob,
I ran 666 or US 191 from Clifton to Alpine on Saturday. A buddy and I went to Alpine for lunch, then we cam back south down 180 on the NM side. 550 miles on Saturday for lunch.

I did my best to eliminate as much interstate as possible, but I have to get to Tucson some how. There is a nice dirt road from Benson to San Manual along the San Pedro, I guess I could take that after seeing that BigRed455 rode his HP2 Sport in the dirt.

I need to go have lunch with Dean so I will have to do it again.

Hey fellas. I live in Colorado and will be going to WSB via I-70 and 40. WEnt last year to see my hero Mr Bayliss and he crashed on me so I'm really hoping Big Ben does the business for us this year. Got to catch Nori and that screaming Duck of his.
I'm planning to camp at the deseret complex. Seems nice enough and I hear they have a pool opening which could be great after a day at the track. Have fun riding up and maybe I can grab a cold one with some of the Pelicaners there. I've sold the R1100S and crossed over to the dark side riding a Triumph Sprint ST this year

Bob, you want to ride up to Utah? I am gong to try to meet Dean in southern Utah and ride up the rest of the way with him.

2001Bee, looking forward to meeting you. The good news is there is an Army Base up the street from the race track so I can go buy some good beer at the Class 6 for the camp site, not that watered down Utah Beer they sell in the stores.

For now the plan is to leave Wednesday, arrive on Thursday, leave the track Sunday after the race, camp someplace in central/southern Utah and arrive home on Monday.
