what goes clickity clack.....sometimes?

yeah I know my bones do that ALL the time but I'm picking up a click clack noise when rolling slowly in gear . It does appear to change frequency with bike speed. I haven't correlated it with clutch action and oddly it seems to quiet when I apply the front brake.

I dont think pivot bearings are related but they are new as is the shaft input bearing on the final drive. I'll put it up on the centerstand tonite to see if its the crown bearing but any input is appreciated.

bike has 50K miles BTW

TIA

Flats, cylinder heads missing, rear shock missing, spark plugs went airborne?

Or did you forget your earplugs?
When I did I thought my engine was about to burst :D

flatbutt 06-11-2009 10:41 AM

ya know Rob that did happen some time ago. I never realized how noisy these suckers are. But no all parts in place. It is 10 years old now so things are probably getting rather worn, but I've kept up with everything I can think of.

Time for a new girlfriend maybe.

Could be something as simple as a rock stuck in the tread.

Loose nut behind the triple?

well clearly that is a contributing factor!

but the loose pads appear to be the culprit. so....this was never an issue before. I recently upgraded to Spiegler braided lines and replaced the pads with EBC HH. Is there a clip gone missing maybe?

roger albert 06-12-2009 01:37 PM

Problem solved.
There are two EBC (same for some other brands) pad types. Come contain anti-rattle clips, some don't. You went from do to don't and got noisier.
No harm
No foul

Ditto on the EBC Pads w/o clips...from my log file:

25AUG2008 - @53,135 Miles I’ve finally discovered what’s rattling up front. It’s the Front Brake Pads…I can rattle them with my fingers through the top opening of the Calipers. The EBC Brake Pads (P/N: FA246HH) do not have an “anti-rattle” clip on them. They’ve been superseded by EBC P/N: FA407HH which have the “anti-rattle” clip. I’ll install the newer ones next time.
