speakin' of sergio...

i gotta say, the boy needs to toughen up.
one little screwdriver through just part of the sidewall and he immediately quits, refusing to continue riding until someone brings him a new tire.

check out this guy last weekend. according to the photographer, "a couple times the tire appeared to re-mount itself. It was quite the sight to see. He ended up 3rd OA (1-6)."

note the throttle hand: he's got the thing pinned, doing what's called a panic rev, trying to bring the front wheel up.

Is that to try and soften the landing?

i'm assuming you're taking about him pinning the throttle.
yea, it works like this:
come off a jump, front wheel too high, tap the rear brake, front comes down.
come off a jump, front too low, pin the throttle to rev the engine, front wheel comes up.
he's got that pinned so deep, i'm surprised he didn't rip the throttle grip off.

I was gonna ignore the thumping and cyclical noise but what got me was the hissing airloss... that did me in. What can I say, snakes and hissing noises get me every time.

For what it's worth, I tried the 'pinning throttle' trick too.

if you get into the physics of what happens, its pretty obvious that without the very heavy tire (in comparison to rim) the effect must have been greatly reduced, its the spinning (or stopping) weight that makes this technique work.

correct shred.
that's probably why he's got the throttle twisted beyond WFO.
things weren't going quite the way they should, therefore, give it more gas.
we've all had days like that.

hope you kept that screwdriver sergio.
mount it over the fireplace as your "rainman" award.

"betcha if it was your girlfriend's thong, you'd of noticed it down on the ground"*...

*(not my line, blatantly stolen from a team manager who was yelling at me for hitting something obvious).

Actually, I never saw it and I'm pretty good at scanning for stuff. I think what may have happened is that someone else may have ridden over it and tossed it under my bike.

I'm debating two scenarios for the screwdriver. A) Mount in a nice wood/glass display case for yes, 'rainman' award. B) returning it to Sears to get a new pristine screwdriver (and possibly toss at the next TC ride).
