r1200s technical help needed

Hi Guys, I have an engine problem. When I open up the throttle aggressively, the engine stutters. Anyone have an idea what this could be. It doesn't happen all the time but its a nuisance especially when I'm planning an overtake.

Thanks

Greenbank;
A little more info might help;
How old are the spark plugs?
When was the air filter serviced?
Bad fuel maybe?
Any thing else you can tell us?
Cheers

What do you mean by stutters?
When a motor hesitates to perform it is usually 3 things. Fuel Air Spark, very unlikely valve clearances.
If you give more detail there are some very clever guys here that can help you.

Wenn Bosch Zündkerzen verbaut sind, tauschen gegen NGK.

When Bosch spark plugs Bosch YR5LDE are installed, swap them for NGK DCPR 8 EKC .

What I had often before, to control the fuel pump was defective due to water penetration. The fuel pressure is controlled by the performance of the fuel pump.
Under load, this will rise to 3.5 bar.

by judder, I means it feels like the bike is struggling for fuel. When I easy off the throttle, no problem. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does i loose confidence on overtaking.

I had exactly the same problem. Very irritating let alone embarrassing when it happened during a track day. Changed main plugs to NGK DCPR 8 and problem solved.
Runs like a dream again. Hope this helps.

If this is what you meant, my apologies. But use the NGK DCPR8EIX iridiums.

Sorry for the incomplete info.
Got the regular EKC no iridium. Needed a quick fix and took what was available and totally happy with it.

Any NGK is better than Bosch-never like them going back to my 1972 Husqvarna CR250-fouled that Bosch constantly-switched to NGK and never looked back.

A few months ago I had EXACTLY the same problem. Wheezing every time I grabbed for a little power. Very frustrating. As I don't have the skills and tools (and I'd recently taken it in for service) I ran it by the dealer. They said all the plugs needed replacing, and it wasn't anything they had done when they performed the service. Replaced the engine and header plugs, but as they did, "oh, by the way..."

Turns out they checked the computer, and there was a faulty mapping that was fouling the plugs. Made it a warranteed fix. New map, new plugs, been running sweet ever since.

Might be worth looking into.

That's interesting-did your problem pop up all of a sudden? That faulty map explanation doesn't make super sense to me-a maps a map-it doesn't go off unless the ECU is taking a dump. Did it foul the plugs all along? How many miles are on your bike?
Thanks, dude.

My bike only has a couple thousand miles on it. Though the S has more mileage, I'm spending more time on my old school Trek 1200 - remember when 14 speeds used to be a lot?

I've had the bike since January, and with intermittent use, it's reasonable to me that the problem could have built to a gradual critical mass over several months. Had the same symptoms - came on pretty abruptly, and sucked wind when trying to pass. Eventually became worse so that roll-ons were sputtering, too. I initially thought I might have loaded a tank of bad gas, but after two or three fill-ups from a reliable station, I was convinced that the problem was more severe.

I didn't think it was anything I'd done, and was pretty sure it was substandard "something" - parts or labor on behalf of BMW, and wasn't looking forward to purchasing a new set of plugs for so little mileage. When they said it was the computer and paid for everything, I was blissfully ignorant and pleased to not press the matter further as I scooted off into the sunset.

Did I also mention I was in a hurry that day?

Sold a s**t load of 1200's when I owned Medford Bicycle & Fitness Center.
Super 105 bike for the money-Black with fuschia graphics or black with lime?

Report back after some more miles on your bike, the R12S, that is.

I had an old black and red that got stolen from my apartment vestibule years ago. I foolishly thought the clipping of the wireless transmitter on the front fork had satiated them. Next day, the bike was gone (U-lock through wheels and chain, but not secured to anything - "duh"). Replaced it with a purple 1200 - maybe ten years ago, and took it out of the garage recently for some serious commuting. Aside from a broken spoke, vacation days, and a couple errands requiring a car, I've been able to go 30 miles round trip for a couple weeks now. Really enjoying it.

What are ya looking for in the report? Bugs in the oil cooler and cylinder fins? Replaced tires? Strange compulsion to occasionally exceed the posted limit?

All of the above.
Used to build tons of wheels using the Trek semi-aero hard anodized rims.
I'm sitting on some spare DT SS spokes. You ever measure the length from the end of the threads to the bend, I'll send you one.
