My new R65

Today i bought a '87 R65 monoshock,60k mile, full service record and etc.I got it 300 miles away from home so i rode it all the way back,I have to admit that i enjoyed every single mile, rideing position the wind and look of course.I enjoyed even more than my R11S and R11RT.Now its the time to start my project for building a cafe racer. This is my dream for a long time
Here are some pics of the bike

Nice bike! So, that's a 650cc, right? What sort of ballpark would one be looking at to get a nice one?

That is sweet little bike you bought, will you swap from handlebars to clip ons? It is hard to tell from the pics.

THAT is very exciting and VERY tasteful... I LOVE THAT LOOK!

Looks like a Ducati tail... much like the one on Jeffie's "new" bike...

That is too cool. Good luck on the transformation. I do like the look. Every time I look at the Ducati I have to sit on the retro cafe bike.

For lowish bars, look into R100RS bars. Like them on my RS enough that I changed my R100CS to them too. Took some mod to the cafe fairing mounts but worked out well w/ no lock to lock problems. Also really like Raask rear-sets from Omar's Cafe. Just my two cents worth. Love them Airheads!!!

My dad's BMW when I was born was an R65. The pictures are in some of the threads on this forum. His had the earlier and narrower tank. It's cool to see an R65 that still looks like the full size models. There is nothing to apologize for with it being a 650 either. The engine width should be narrower thereby giving you a greater lean angle over the larger displacement BMW's. Monoshock is very cool as well. If you're looking for low factory bars find some from an RS. There're zero rise with a bend backward that you can tilt lower than the top clamp. Mine has clubman bars. These mimick clip-ons without having to cut the headlight support ears. If you do a frame mount fairing however this won't be a concern.
