Valve Cover Plastic Protector

Hi Folks, I was about to purchase the BMW Valve covers for my 04 dual ignition but I came upon these new version ones. Anybody use them? They look quite cool.

The plastic ones are not worth the money! And really won't protect much in a fall over.

Got the same ones on my S, they're for the single plug version, and they saved my right valve cover when I slid out in the sand around a corner. Still scuffed & still on.

Rique, I have those on my bike. They're plastic and about the same price as one valve cover. I don't expect a lot from them but maybe save some scratches. I'm looking for something more substantial.

2wheelMike. Those are the MachineArt X-head covers. I bought a set a few months ago for my first track day with the R12. They are well made and they seem pretty sturdy although I've not tested them in anger (touch wood) . I locktite blue'd them on and have noticed the bolts loosen up a bit after some riding so keep an eye on that.
On their web site they show dumping an R12 GS on its side on concrete and they stand up to it.

Touratech's black steel ones look the best, but I'm not sure how they'd look on an R12S.

John,
The writing on the cover says "MachineArt". They're listed at Santa Cruz BMW. Retail is $190

Here's their description:
The next generation X-Head Cylinder Guards are newly designed to be thicker, tougher and with more robust mounting. X-Head.v2 are injection molded in Xenoy, a polycarbonate and polyester alloy that is impact, temperature, & chemical resistant. At 5mm thick, X-Heads provide wide coverage to protect both the valve and spark plug covers and are reasonably priced in between BMW's basic safety bars and aluminum guards.

i had the original Machinart coers on my GS... one of them broke off at the mounting tabs(all of them) on the trip to TOR... noone even noticed it was gone untill i went to wash the bike.

the new ones seem to be a direct response to this weak area, and other than that, they seemed really well sorted out. and yes, they are sacraficial skin, they are gonna look like hell if you low side it on the pavement. but i had those other ones on my GS, andone of them broke into pieces in a 5mph getoff on sand, the other broke in a 0 mph tipover on gravel.
