I thought I did as a replacement for my problematic GS. But that is a $20,000 bike pictured there with a lot of electronic & technological gadgetry.

Hmmm...perhaps the base model ($15K) with an Ohlins upgrade...

I think it may turn out to be the best all-round bike on the planet.

I know I sound like a broken record, but Ducati is known for beautiful performance bikes, not dirt bikes. Can you imagine trying to ride one of these up the Haul Road in Alaska.
Ralf, give us your opinion of a Ducati in the dirt.

Lets ask ridemore? He has 2 Multistradas and has ridden there 5 times. I can try to call Gary Eagan and get his views but he's probably busy.

Ralf probably still has the ride fresh on his mind so maybe he can help you out there Jerry. Seems I remember Ralf road the road on the bestest dirt touring bike there is with a R1200GS?

I consider my multistradas low powered sport bikes with dirt bike ergos, I haven't taken any of my AK trips on a multi' and I don't think the current model is very dirt capable. The KTM 990 Adv is the most confidence inspiring big dualie that I have ridden. However; the 2010 has me thinking I can replace two or three bikes with one --- or just add another bike to the fleet!

Dee, It looks like the weather is going to good for a mountain run Mounday and Tuesday - What do you think. I am also thinking of running Aho road Saturday, Is your Cagiva ready?

I think that 1200 would be fun to ride, but the older I get the more simple things appeal to me. I just don't know about all the electronic gizmos, three or four different fuel mapping options, etc. Also I would have to get over the psychological barrier of paying 20,000 for a motorcycle. I think I will just be happy with what I have.

It looks better from the side than it does from the front.

Hey Gary, maybe Ducati should take a page out of BMWs book and sell the new 1200 for 13,000 and subsidize it by selling the low-tech, two-valve bikes.

Good morning Dan, Don't get me started. oops too late - You mean like charging over $20K for the 2 valve GS Adv and selling the high teck SRR for $13K. The new 1200 Duc looks like a better deal.

Dee, what kind of Cagiva did you get? I would like to have a Grand Canyon, I have heard great things about them, and love the Ducati 2 valve engine. Big brother says getting parts is a PITA though.

Spill it...What did you get?

The Enduro model has longer travel suspension and some other goodies!
I think that it will be a winner for Ducati

The new Multistrada sure is good looking! Also, I have always liked and appreciated and have even owned em. However, the old & "new" Multistrada has chain drive, conventional front forks (which some prefer) and typically cost more to own and operate. In closing, and based on price/comparison for what you get, for me the GS is the easy winner, however I admit I'm biased to GS's!

It is big bucks, that's for sure. Awesome looking bike and more appealing at the $15k range. If the economy doesn't pick up by then it may be like the rest of the new bikes sitting on the Ducati floors....marked down $$$

Let's be real. 95% of the GS' sold never see any dirt in their lifetime. This, the GS, the Tiger, etc, really are bikes made for sunday afternoon asphalt warriors pretending to be adventurers when they are allowed out of their house by the wifey. ADVrider is NOT the norm.

As such, it will probably kick all the competitions butt.

And as usual from Ducati, it looks great.

But all these electronics, and Italian made?

Looks like a cool bike.

The Gran Canyon was possibly the best sorted bike of its genre in its era. Still a very very good bike, BUT, as BigBro said, parts availability (other than motor) is very sketchy. Was already sketch 5 years ago. And, they are designed to be ridden, not worked on. It is the most difficult to work on 2V duc ever made, even worse than the nightmare of the very early ST2s and their very finicky intakes.

Tank halves are a bite in the ass.
Valve adjustment is not only desmo (not that bad if you're half competent) but very hard to get to, especially on the rear cylinder.

The Gran Canyon is a love/hate bike, but works very well.
