D220ST mileage estimates
Sorry, I don't want to start a tire thread. I am just trying to get a range for a Dunlop D2200ST set, on an R1100S. Anyone want to offer the mileage they ran with these.
Thanks

Good point Mr. Carr....tire inflation is critical for good mileage, I am sure this is what Rick really wants to know, that the type of tire actually has little to do with how long it lasts, that it is all about inflation and riding style. I personally take my tire inflation very seriously, not only the pressure, but what goes in them.
I run a mix of the following gasses in my tires. Nitrogen (N2): 78.09% Oxygen (O2): 20.95% Argon (Ar): 0.93% Carbon dioxide (CO2): 0.038% Others (less than 0.002% each): Neon (Ne), Helium (He), Krypton (Kr), Hydrogen (H2), Xenon (Xe). Works great!

What I recall about the 220s, is that when they replaced the D205s, mileage was all over the place. The old D205s were a pretty common sport touring tire. Dunlop killed their ST rep with the 220s. 3000-6000 with a pretty even distribution, and not that many above 6k. Some went that far of course, but there seemed to be a lot of stories of them going off and handling funny at anything much above 5, even though there was a lot of tread left (not that rare for many tires, but especially pronounced with them)
I can't think of a tire on which I'd less rather wager the duration

So, what DO folks like for very high mileage these days (say, on a big RT where duration matters a lot more than grip)

I like them too - I think they're the best for mileage and grip, but I have a customer doing some rentals, so cost per mile is big, and most to his customers are putters, so grip is not a big deal.
We've seen 3 Metz Z6s with delamination, on two different RTs lately, so we're going to move away from those for a while.

Had a set of Avons once that went 10k but they had poor grip in the rain, not good here in the PNW. I average around 7k on PRs.

I have a set of Pirelli Diablo Stradas with about 5K on them and they still look good, all trip miles to/from UT and CO this summer. They still have a few K left in them. I will buy another set when these wear out, i like them.

From my maintenance notes on the K12S. PR2's that took me out west this past summer. You can get a set for around $320 delivered. Hard to beat imho....the K was loaded with tent and lottsa stuff (not like what Ralf took on his Alaska trip, but loaded none-the-less) and I rode it pretty hard.
"19Nov09. 24,230 miles. Tires got to the wear bars so I changed them out with new set of PR2CT’s. I got 9,249 miles out of this set. They still had some life if I wanted to push it, but they were quite flattened in the center and made the bike handle poorly."
