OT - 2000 Jeep Cherokee Advice Sought

Well since I ask advice on everything else here....thought I'd get the forum wisdom on this Jeep. 4x4, clean, runs and shifts well, one owner, 131,000 miles. I6 4.0L drives and stops well. Everything works. Local dealer won't come off price...$5000 out the door.

My plan is to leave it at my house in the hills for when I ride up or even use it when it snows. I've heard nothing but good about these things. Comments?

Those things settle in at about $5,000

The I-6 is a bulletproof engine they say. Good up to 300,000 miles. But I'll never know for sure since I left mine at 202,000. They don't make it anymore...

If the description is accurate, unusually clean, then it seems fair. It's not the price that can be negotiated that much, more the choice of vehicles within that price range. This one looks good.

There's not much to worry about I don't think. Although I don't know much about the automatics. Probably U-Joints at some point.

Thanks ck. The $5k is OTD....sales tax and registration. Buyers market for houses...evidently sellers market for used Jeeps. Especially around here.

Or here. My old one was a 2001, great cars. They go for $5,000 because they are built tough, last forever, and new they are $30,000 to $40,000

Does the pedal stick or bind. Is it's travel impeded in any way? Is there a water bottle or cell phone case stuck under it? These are all things that Id be looking at.

Seriously, that car is boring.

If I were you I'd be looking for an old Wagoner, a CJ, or a Landcruiser. Something with some interest. That Cherokee is a real snoozer.

My co-worker and I were just looking at Cherokees last week. $5000 is the low end of what they were going for in Arizona. 2001 was the last year they were made. Its a manual right? The only problem our '89 had was a cracked exhaust manifold at 100K.

The only thing that might be a concern is the bearings in the rear differential, they tend to go bad in the 120,000 to 150,000 mile time frame, cost about $300.00 or so to get all new bearings, other wise a bullet proof ride.
