12S - how do I reset the stepper motors or idle actuators
I have heard speak of resetting the idle actuators and others speaking of stepper motors and then even another (Col) having an actuator? replaced under warranty.
This seems to be a bit of a so so area on the R12 at least. My idle is pretty ordinary and the FRK has not been put in yet, I know friggin useless right? ![]() I remember owenm writing about how to reset them but I didn't follow it too well as my 3 R's aren't too flash (reading, riting and rithmetic ) I NEED A PICTORIAL!Can the brotherhood explain just how even a dummy can reset these bizzos danka I love yuz all (Jeff Fenech) Last edited by chewie; 03-25-2010 at 12:04 AM.. |

My idle noticeably improved when I dumped the Bosch spark plugs in favor of NGK Iridiums at about 2500 miles. 9168 miles now and still idles reliably smooth.

The only thing, other than the dealers equipment, that I've seen for resetting the stepper motors is the GS 911 diagnostic tool.

Local Guru (who can't resolve my permanent awful idle problem) says that if you turn on-off 3 times (without starting) the bike > that ****** BMS-K can reset the Idle things.
My comment: If you buy this, you can buy anything.

Mine were reset by the dealer with their special diagnostic tool, but the idle deteriorated 30 minutes later and was solved by replacement of one of the motors. Once a bad motor, always a bad motor. Stepford motors.

+1 on GS-911 and of course, it gives you other diagnostics. I got the "enthusiast blue tooth" model so I can use my BB to diagnose any errors on the road.

Interesting responses, thanks dudes, so where does that leave me?
I'm 300km from a service outlet (600 round) What does the Diagnostic Tool cost US? The cheapest of the two above things may be the best solution for mwa edit) Ken, I should ask, how the heck could the sparkers make that difference? (and Kieran do you still have that spare set?) Nothing with the actuators if they are having a problem, really. I just noticed the bike idled better, IMO, when I changed out the Bosch plugs.

Bluetooth enthusiast = $350 US
No, it's not cheap, but neither is a trip to the dealer-

Add another for the GS-911. You can reset your next service date as well by mileage or by date. Saves a trip to the dealer if you are doing your own work.

Jon ,
My bike ran like a hairy goat , intermitantly , Dealer plugged in, and the only course of action was to replace the idle actuator . Haven't had any problems since . I would suggest giving Southbank a ring and seeing if there is any "Hidden Warranty" on idle actuators , often manufacturers are aware of a fault that is common in a model range and will warrant certain parts after the warranty life of the bike . My father had the automatic transmission replaced in his six year old car because of a known fault that was covered by "hidden warranty"
