Man, that sounds familiar. Sometimes when I hear of a compelling deal, but can't get out to check it out in time and miss it, I later find I'm glad I did. This one IS a deal, if it's what you really want, but if it's not, then it may be the best cold you've had in a while.

Feel better Bob.

I still think you ought to buy it... you can't really loose much money! It's not that the bike will only be worth half as much after you rode it for a while.

But, as it has been mentioned before... IF it is what you want and what you are looking for.

Great Buy!

KLR IMO is one of the best bargains out there. RTW capable with minimal fuss. I love the new styling and enhancements are reasonable in price.

Yup. Buy right you can sell right. I remember 6-7 years ago we bought a jet ski for our boat"rafted up all day I get bored got to ride something" we bought for like $2500 used 2 years and sold for the same dollar. I wish I could have done that with the boats I have owned over the years. I would offer $3500, ride it for a while if you get tired of sell it for $3000.

I honestly believe that - if he were to ride it for a while - he'd not want to sell it anymore... those darn thumpers are just way too much fun!

Bob,

I have an '09 KLR650 that I really like. I have a Remus can on it, SS brake lines, Happy Trails panniers, a center stand, SW Motech engine guards and bash plate, Acerbis bars, Bark Buster hand guards and an Eagle Mike doohickey. The bike is competent on seasonal roads and light dirt. Truly an enjoyable machine. I'll ride it until the wheels fall off. The great part is I won't have my feelings hurt if I fall over with it and I could throw it down a hill and wouldn't lose any sleep. I was always paranoid about "hurting" my GS. I don't worry anymore. I got rid of the GS, bought the KLR, and banked the difference. Buy it. $3,900 is CHEAP entertainment. Some of the most enjoyable rides I have taken were "I wonder where that road goes" rides. That is a role where the KLR shines. It is NOT a dirt bike. But if you buy it for the right purpose and understand its limitations it's hard to imagine you won"t be happy with it.

Get the King of the Dual Sports instead of that plastic, single cylinder pogo stick:

The problem with the ktm 950 is it weights like 420-430 lbs. and has a more complex v twin engine. One of my riding buddies has the ktm 690 great bike infact he is the one that inspired me to get a dual sport. I would have bought the ktm 690 but my dealer can`t sell them or work on them due to a computor program that he does not have. So I went with the bmw g650x and love it. I think is around 300-320 lbs.

There's a G450X and a G650GS. I'm unaware of a G650X.
If you are talking about a G650GS, it's 423 lbs, ready to ride and fueled.
The KTM 950 Super Enduro is 445 lbs, ready to ride and fueled. The power will off-set the 25 lbs. or so.

G650 X Challenge, sold in the US in 2007, I believe they are still available other places.

I have not weighed it, but according to my owner's manual: "342LBS (155KG) DIN unladen weight, ready for road, 90% full tank of gas, without OE."

Not sure what OE is. I had always heard 318 dry. Now I see motorcycle manufactures are publishing wet weight instead of dry weight, that makes more sense.

Here is a fun link, but I believe these are the old dry weight ratings.

ktm 690 enduro. about 325lbs, wet i think.

i had a 950 SE, big heavy bike. very top heavy. that bike ran the twisties as well as the GS. both bikes run on DOT knobs. the SE is a better street bike than dirt, IMO.

a klr is a big heavy bike too. i dont care what it wieghts, its top heavy.

economical dual sporter? DR650.

Forget the $3,900 - $3,650 bargain purchase. It's out the window!

Instead get what EZ-RIDER wants, get that nice Ducati Multistrada 1200S (matches the BMW r1200S too)
it's only mere money and a bargain at $18,995.

Don't be cheap! Be "King of the Hill" in your new pad! Your neighbors will have new found respect for you too!

Or,

There's always these! Price unknown...

yeah, it would be wrong to buy a $3k bike, when so many $10k bikes are without good riders to take care of them.

just irresponsible.

$10K dual sport bikes.

Aprilia RXV.

For only 5K, consult craigslist.
2007 Aprilia RXV 550

Check out the video of the SXV on motorcycle.com. That could be you Bob.

Video: Aprilia - 2008 Aprilia SXV 5.5 Review

Brian hit the nail (no offense Bubba) on the head, why save a couple grand getting the KLR, when you can save 5K on something really cool. You can go broke saving money.

Rob...thats a neat bike. I almost bought the 450rxv a while back. My bmw dealer in charlotte has one now. I like them. The one I was looking at....new, well we had a hard time cranking it and a hard time keeping it running the kind of riding I do that won`t work. I ride a lot of tight single track, creek X`ing, hilly, rocky stuff and a lot of waiting on your buddy to get the bike off of himself and then go...and then getting the bike of myself...the rxv just wants to go,go,go. I still like the bike. But with my 650x I still have a void. I need a 450`ish bike I can tag. My buddies are going back to kentucky for the big duel sport this year and the 650 is just a tad on the big side. I also like the g450x and I can tag it. Don`t know what I will do at this time.

Rob, are you going to the TOR? I have not had a large road trip In a while and I`m going somewhere this year big.
