Guys, whats a fair price for a pristine R12S, with Ohlins, wide tire, full Akrapovic, bags, tankbag, 5000 miles ???

you can always view completed auctions on eBay to see what they are or aren't selling for.

Hard to say....what's your location? It's still a buyers market for these things and they are worth every penny.

i just looked, a box stocker (no Ohlins) was bid up to $7300 but didn't make reserve, so it wasn't sold.

I recently paid 9,500 for my all black, full Ti exhaust, with many nice other little upgrades, and I felt like we both made a fair deal. I've seen them go from $14k to around 8k, so depending on condition, color etc somewhere in the lower half of that range would be good.

Since buying it I can't tell you how many folks have said they love it, and have been thinking about getting one. This really is a Daytona winning motorcycle that you can have great fun on everyday, and without being cramped like an origami spider mounting a fly, which is how I feel on most (all) sport bikes.

I think it will develop quite a cult following going forward as there really isn't anything else in it's class like it, and the fact there are very few of them here in the states will certainly help.

My sentiments, there will only ever be a handful for sale in Oz at any time. I especially like it when people stop and look as I ride by. Alot of people have never seen them before, you can see that look in their eye. It's a cool motorsickle.

Yeah, I've looked on ebay but was not able to find any completed listings. Maybe I did something wrong.

A month or so ago, I saw a dealer move one similarly equipped for about $11k.

Just doesnt seem to be many around.

What a wonderfully descriptive phrase. I usually say "folded up like a gorilla on a donkey", but yours has class. I'd shamelessly steal it but folks would know it wasn't mine so it's safe.

What I'm seeing are the r1100s bikes settling in around $4,500 - $5,000

Therefore, in summary, my conclusion is that the r1200s bikes will settle in at $4,501 to $5,001 in five more years.

So your cost is not what you pay, but what you lose. Of course, then there's the opportunity cost...

And time is the one thing we can't buy back. I have to say as a relatively new R12S owner my only regret is not buying one new in '07, and putting all those (s)miles on it myself.

selling price

Bought my yellow, stock shocks, narrow rear, heated grips r1200s for 8000 on ebay, in December. 1700 miles under Mfg MCO never titled BMWNA PR bike.

Red/silver that I did not buy sold for 9500 in December with all the goodies, on EBAY.

BMW dealer in Grand Rapids MI had two, one black, one yellow I think, at reasonable prices.

there was a brand new, no miles, yellow with all the goodies on EBAY right after I bought mine, did not sell. I think it was in Pittsburgh, advertised as the last bike left from a closed dealership. My recollection is that the bidding went to 10K or so.

Oh yeas, on our local Craigslist - LA a silver one with full Ti Akri and 5,000 miles just went for 10,500, reduced from 12,000.
Also a really heavily tricked out one went at Irv Sever BMW in the OC in Nov for $13k.
Check Cyctetrader too, looks like a range there from 9,400-14,000.

I measure my cost in terms of depreciation per mile. I sold my GS for $2k less than I paid for it (not including later farkles). I put 30k miles on it in those two years I had it. So it cost me a little over a nickel per mile. If I add maintenance and farkles, it might bring it up to a dime per mile. I'd say it was worth every penny.

I paid $11,200 for my S and have averaged 1000 miles per month in the year I've had it. It'd probably be hard to get $10k for it now, but I plan to put 10-12k miles per year on her and don't plan to sell her anytime soon. So I think my cost per mile will get lower with each ride.

Go look on the 911 BBS here and you'll see folks whose cost of ownership is over $1 per mile. I think these bikes are a great thrill/bang for the buck.
