Fuel Guage

I recently purchased a 2007 R1200s, noticed it doesn't have a fuel guage but only warns you when I am down to my last 80km until empty. Is this normal or is there some trick to switch the LCD panel to "fuel level" ?

This is normal. You only get the fuel gauge with the on board computer option.

The last I understood it was "impossible" to add an on board computer. Does anyone have newer information otherwise?

that is my understanding as well, although you can add the HP2S 2D dashboard for a paltry $3000!

the only thing I would want that is not on the digitial readout i have is air temp, and maybe a big digital speed readout, all the rest of the crap i could care less.

I don't recall anyone making the upgrade, here are some old threads discussing the computer.

sdaddy, I know you have seen these, just adding them for the newer folks that may be interested.

But, you still don't get a fuel gage.

"on board computer" option is simply a yes/no question on start up (ZFE, I-cluster code) :

had the customer payed for the "computer" thing ? if yes > bravo > a good customer > show him the data, if no > shame to you > ...

On the other hand I barely can imagine any serious hacker spending time to crack the I-cluster code (why bother?).

the light comes on when there is 4 liters left, which is almost always after 120 miles. I reset Trip 1 after every refill, and use Trip 2 for the total route. What more do you need?

BTW, how do you retire from the military and not know how to spell gauge?

You could buy a ZUMO and program it to your fuel range and it will give you a fuel gauge. You would have a 600 buck fuel gauge and a really nice free GPS.
