Removing injectors...anything I should know?
 

Sending my injectors to be cleaned and calibrated.
The manuals I have don't say anything about removing them...it looks straightforward enough. Any surprises waiting for me?
Undo electrics, undo holder, pull out gently? Any special lube when they go back in?

No, its straight forward enough. Be careful with the O rings that seal them, however as you reinstall. Lube the O rings lightly when reinstalling. Use a quality conductivity enhancer on the injector's electric input connectors. Make sure you inspect the end (orifice) for rust that can form from using ethanol treated gas in them. Make sure the injector mist patterns are the same, nice and full, and that the rate is equal as well. Deposits caused by water in the gas, and almost impossible to see with the eye, can cause asymmetrical patterns and thereby uneven combustion one to the other. Important tuning that is often overlooked.

Just did the clean treatment for mine (for no particular reason other than the Greek quality on fuel).

Was fun to see them squirt at various rpm (injection duration - milliseconds - and circuit pressure on display as well) and then compare the red liquid per injector. Followed an ultra sound treatment and the squirt phase repeated again. No faults found - mind (25K Km).

All that for 30 Euros (and 40 minutes).

Peter. Do you guys have to put up with ethanol? Hope not, as that has been a problem in some applications here stateside.

This is how we checked the flow pattern on a rebuild a few years ago. Worked like a charm too.

No ethanol over here, just serious quality problems in classic petrol fuel. Problems in refineries and the whole distribution system meaning that you think that you've paid for some clean RON100 fuel only to discover that you have RON50 mixed with diesel/debris (and some water to add a proper excitement).

Peter, perhaps that is why BMW has stayed with single squirt injectors on the twin units as contrasted to the newer injectors which have up to 12 holes for exit. With the single outlet there is less chance of stoppage if the gas being used is contaminated with debris or water. Thanks for the statement of conditions over there. Any chance the financial crisis will work itself out.........the Euro did not turn out so hot for Greece, but what a wonderful place it must be not the less.

Well...injectors apart, Greece lived long time with borrowed money/hope (not to mention that European South is impossible to go to bed - long term - with North) and now is the pay time. Amateurs who run the show accelerate the free fall as well.

Impossible to avoid bankruptcy by the end of 2012 (or rather sooner if the EU breaks into pieces - which is unavoidable).

No offense Curve, but the Euro has nothing to do with the problems Greece is having, but everything with incompetent gov't, the general attitude of the people with regard to (paying, or lack thereof) taxes and unsustainable perks (pension @ 53, earlier for gov't employees)

If everybody would pay their taxes, they could keep all other perks and retire at 53 and pay off their debts without the financial help of the EU. Think 30 billion euro per annum. They really have no one else to blame than themselves for the mess they are in and they should not bark at the EU for demanding guarantees for bailing them out. Either they want to get out of the mess on the terms of the people providing the money, or they should get out of the euro zone and try to do it the Greek way. Whichever they choose. There will be no such thing as a free lunch for the Greek people on my tax euros.

Then again, the euro countries should not have let Greece in on the euro to begin with, because the problems they have now have been around since forever. Any politician in the EU acting surprised is a liar and an idiot and should be removed from office. When Greece still had their own coin, there was a reason for it being worth next to nothing and bizarre inflation numbers compared to Northern Europe. The same is valid for Italy, Spain and Portugal.

TM, please be more careful with the "T" word. There are some fringe elements of American society that think the government "owes" them police protection, fire protection, good roads, etc. for free.
