Put away that video camera, it could be a felony!

First we get cops shooting unarmed rider. Then we get a plain clothed cop pulling a gun on a rider WITHOUT identifying himself, then they arrest the rider for a Felony a month later, for having his go-pro video camera running!!!! Up to 5 years in jail!!

I am glad Maryland legal system is all caught up on other violent crimes, and it is now safe in the slums of Baltimore.

Motorcycle Speeder who recorded Cop pulling his Gun Charged with Felony

martincito 05-31-2010 08:58 AM

Probably the guy with the camera is going to have more problems with the law than the coward that shot in the back the biker in your other post.
I don't think that anybody in Maryland has been charged for filming another person on the street. But in this case is a police and the judge need to protect his people.
Is a tough world out there. You have to be careful. They can taser you, beat you up and after that charge you for assault and resisting arrest at any time. The consequences for them are very little or none.
Cops really scare me.

Backwoodsboy 05-31-2010 09:43 AM

In some cities they can record a person to person contact so that can be used in their own defense, people not involved can only record video.

But in this video, He had to pull the gun, the rider could have flashed his brights at him or honked his horn, both life threatening.

The officer could have fired upon him if he was a pussy and thought he was going to be ran over. Which in the case of my state, most are. They cannot fire upon you anymore for running, most don't understand that, I guess they did not get the memo. Only if they feel threatened can they actually use thier firearm.

Anyone can be brought up on bogus charges, they will find something to charge you with. But once it gets to court is when they actually get to present the case to the judge, that DOES NOT WORK FOR THE POLICE, but has the final word in deciding what charges you are guilty of.

Charges that added up to 16years, serve 8 in jail ended up with 2 years probabtion after the judge seen it.

Ive contested speeding tickets only to have the judge call me up, file through the paperwork, and say case dismissed because the cop spelled my name wrong.

I love it when I can walk up to the cop after court and say better luck next time.

Cops are going to lose this one too

Motorcyclist charged with videoing cop - Photo.net Street & Documentary Forum
Motorcyclist jailed for 26 hours for videotaping gun-wielding cop | Photography is Not a Crime

The second the cop got out of the car with his gun drawn, on the side of a public road he gave up his right to privacy. If a journalist was there, his pic was fair game or video was fair game and you don't have to be a journalist. First Amendment 101.

What's next, one can't video a beat down by the police in the street? I don't think so, these privacy laws were meant to protect the individual in their home, car, hotel rooms, bathrooms, etc...

As the second web site talks about, this has been tried by the police only to be thrown out by the Judges. They were just pissed it showed the cop for who he is, drawing a gun on a motorcyclist (who if you watch the whole two minute plus video was not moving much faster than traffic, cars at times passed him) and not identifying himself as a officer of the law, no badge shown or markings on the car, that I could see. LEO giving the rest a bad name imo.

BTW just bought one from COSTCO for $100 (great deal) for my son's off road adventures and when my nephew informed me of this I decided I would ride with it to show my side of the story.

Fortunately the law is on your side if you can prove your case. I call or write the local CHP office to report cruisers that pass without signaling, swerve in and out of traffic, speed without lights on, etc. In my view, "some" out there need to be reminded periodically that they must also obey the law.

Of course, if you're an ass, they can find a tail light out, etc., which has also happened to me....

Rick Lee 05-31-2010 02:00 PM

That kid should have kept the video secret, filed a complaint or suit and then let the cops totally lie and incriminate themselves on the record before he sprung the video on them.

I don't think a cop would pull something like that in AZ though, as a lot of bikers are (legally) armed and would be justified in killing anyone who drew down on them in an apparent road rage incident before identifying himself as a cop.

Too many guns, too many fools.

Admit it, guys !

You just want to intimidate anxious european tourists, so they will cancel their ideas of a vacation in the U.S :D:D:D

Which I just did. SmileWavy

For any US. guy out there who has enough of that police stories:
We can meet about halfway late summer at the Azores.
Azores - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A friendly Portugese-European archipel in the Atlantic Ocean with few guns and a lot of cows of german origin.

hmmm.....if every german jew would have met the gestapo at the door witrh a knife, pitchfork or (shudder) firearm there would have been no holocaust...and I am 1/2 german so I am entitled to say my mind.
an unarmed people is a slave people. The right to bear weapons is the right to be free.
I will never, ever, ever give up my RIGHT to defend and protect myself. Something most Europeans have no idea about.

Sorry that's just ridiculous.

First, every human being on this planet is entitled to say his mind, regardless of race, nationality, colour of skin, religion and all this other stuff.

Second, all that knives, pitchforks and firearms would probably have let to some VERY FEW more dead as*hol*s, but it would never have saved one single of all those awful many losses.

Third, I have an idea of defending and protecting myself without guns, which is quite easy while living in an environment mostly without guns.

I'm quite happy with my only "gun" stuffed away in my underwear, ready to shoot whenever a sweet girl comes along. Don't need the substitute which is made of steel and operated by hand. :D

To me it seems some of the US guys here talk about the problems of having eggs, neglecting the hen who laid them. ;)

phoenixtexoma 06-02-2010 04:48 AM

Read some history, folks. It was Stalin's Bolshevik Jews coming for the Germans after they had murdered 20 million (or more, some accounts make it closer to 50 million) Russians and were promising the same for Germany. Regardless of what you think about the Nazis, there was a reason the Germans were rounding up Bolsheviks -- like Anne Frank's communist parents. If the communists had won, it would have been the German people in concentration camps.

Sorry about the Euro...

But while we're sharing bad cop stories, how about Miller? Anyone here get stopped at the motorcycle-only roadblock?

You can have a gun in Europe if you want. Getting the permit is a little more restrictive but doable. You can't get an assault rifle or walk on the street with a gun but definitely you can own one. Finland has the third highest number of guns in the world per capita.
I like guns, shotguns particularly. A couple of weeks ago I was shooting with a FS2000 assault rifle. I loved it. But I don't think that I need a weapon to be protected and I don't find any relation between owning a gun and being free. Here is very easy to own a gun but I don't see less individual freedom in the European countries at all.
From what you want to be protected?
You are not going to die shot by a guy that got into your house.
You are going to die probably of cancer or a heart attack. Eating vegetables and exercising often will keep you safer than a gun. :D

Here's the polite version. The first-hand accounts from the riders (I've only read a few) are a bit more blunt.

Ran into one of the MC only checkpoints on 133 just N of the MC playground. They had several bikes pulled over and flagged the few in front of us into a parking lot. When wife and I pulled up on the BMW's they waved us through.

We got down to the country store and they had some event going, and it looked like there was beer in the parking lot and lots of cruisers. I am sure news traveled fast back to them.

What do they check? Basically like being pulled over right?

Not sure what they were checking, they just waved bikes into a parking lot where there were additional LEO looking them over. Must be we looked like law abiding and responsible citizens when they just waved us through.
