iABS Pressure Modulator on 04 R11S...help

My brake failure light just came on yesterday and is flashing in rapid succession. Upon scouring the net for info, I found a post that has almost the identical issue I have, except that I haven't verified whether or not brake fluid is leaking from the front.

Anyone got and tips on troubleshooting this (veritable noob with mechanics, but I want to learn self-sufficiency). Thanks in advance!

Does your brake light work? (Tail light)

how many flashes? There is a chart under the seat.

I've had the abs light go off for either tailight bulb out, or wheels out of synch from braking over bumps or wheelies. The tailight is tricky though because if one of the filaments is out, it will still have taillight and braking features.

one if by land, and two if by sea!

just kidding. there are 2 flash speeds: 1 & 4 Hz. It soulds like you are seeing the 4Hz flash. Is your general warning light on or off? Do you have normal braking or only residual ? Are both front &rear levers fully released when the ignition switch is first turned on?

My tail light does work. It reset itself after I removed all the fairing and tank, traced the wires to check for loose or severed wire, confirmed tight connecting points, checked the pressure modulator for leaks, cleaned the air filter (unrelated), disassembled the rear fairing and tail light assembly, drank a beer, did a rain dance, called on the BMW gods of troubleshooting (and consequently got no answer...need a new deity I guess), then put it all back together.

I did notice a DRAMATIC improvement in brake function over and above what it was before (cracked a nut on the tank with a full handful of brake)...

Summation...still puzzled why and don't like it. When it was malfunctioning, the flash rate was 4 Hz and the general warning light was on.
