Did this one for NVArt5 Competition - ACCELERATE, Images of future transport : In the style of Syd Mead . It's worth checking out the whole competition as there were many awesome entries.
Anyways, started late in the process so wasn't quite finished at deadline. It's possible I will be doing version 2.0 for my future portfolio, so any comments and constructive criticism is welcome. Bare in mind that I'm not an engineer, and also that this design is my personal preference, so by v2.0 some stuff might change, hopefully with your help. Thanks. Artistically speaking not bad at all (I like the rim suspension and the Dodge Tomahawk rear end). Honda Valkyrie gave you the motor inspiration? IMHO the whole thing should be more nose heavy...as it is reminds me the "horizontal" 999 topology, which was ...er...bad (not a Massimo design). What software do you use? (maybe Rhino + T-Splines?). What rendering engine? |

very cool, yamaha did something called the teseract that had four independently suspended wheels. is there something that would keep the back wheels from getting out of sync, in case one wheel went off the edge of the road for example?
I like the watercooled opposed 4 concept, and I have speculated that it would really be a step function innovation for the R line. What is the cylindrical object, the battery or fuel? Very cool! |
I used R1200S as a starting point for proportions and no other references except those already in my subconsciousness... well a couple of photos of Ohlins for sure. :)
Modo was used for polygonal modeling with subdivision. Not very handy for vehicle design, but it has other advantages. Rendered in 3dsmax with VRay. |

The amount of creativity you must have to come up with that (along with the ability to use a computer software package) is really impressive! The practical side of me noticed an apparent lack of brakes, and zooming in, the fuel tank seems too flat on top to go with the fairing, but standing back, it all works!

what sort of computer are you using? i love the rear actuation, but engineering-wise...well, i'm trying to figure it out.. only way the rears could move independent is a split 'swingarm' or possibly ... |

Thanks mate, much appreciated! The brakes are intentionally omitted to keep the hollow area of the rims as clean as possible, but they could be added (like the ones on buell for instance), but they could also be hidden within the wheel along with the electromotor. Tank bag and hard-cases are optional. However, installation of the hard-case mount requires drilling couple of holes in the tail fairing. :) Rapid: Thanks man! Yes, VRay is one of the top "biased" render engines out there. It's used alot for visualizations, especially in architecture. Modeling itself doesn't require a strong computer, although it doesn't hurt to have one. I'm currently working on intel Core 2 Quad, 4-core cpu rated at 2.4 GHz, but I overclocked it to 3.7 GHz, with nvidia GTX 275 for openGL. For renders, a local "render farm" was utilized. It's equipped with 6 dual-xeon servers, each having a total of 8 cores at 2.4Ghz (I think). All views from final composit were rendered in 2000x1500 and average render time was something like 2 hrs per image (1 server per image). The rear swingarm is split in the middle and both halves are leaning on each other. I thought from mechanical POV that might give it more sturdiness. Although, some kind of link, that would keep them joined regardless of independent swing, might be desirable. David: Thanks!
