Ventura Bike Pack for R1200S

I have not seen Ventura racks mentioned here, they are very common in this part of the world; I have just mounted one on my R12S and found it simple to fit, well engineered and very effective. As can be seen the rack is easily removed from the support rails and an optional grab handle fitted in its place. The handle is unobtrusive and is handy when moving the bike around, the rails also provide a place to attach straps or ties if required.
The system is manufactured from steel tubing for strength but overall weight is low.
The support rails mounts to the standard BMW attachment points, but since my bike has the passenger foot pegs removed I needed to add a 10mm spacer (stainless nut) to make up for the lack of the alloy peg bracket.

Several bags are available, the one I have is expandable for extra capacity when required. The bag lifts of the rack, but I find it just as easy to lift the rack and bag of together.
The designed load rating of the system is 9kg (20lbs).

Nice rack...

Owen,am I right when I say that the Ventura rack attaches where the rear footpeg hangers go?So Ventura rack or passenger?
Does the Ventura rack still work with the BMW factory bags?

I guess reading your post one more time the rack works with the footpegs.
But the other question still remains...

I have never seen the factory bags so I don’t know if the Ventura rack will be compatible sorry.

Hi,

I have both the Bmw luggage, and fitted the ventura rack this weekend.

It's not really compatible, but its possible. I needed to modify the mounting brackets by putting a couple of bends in each one to allow them to be mounted - sort of entwined with the BM luggage mounting bracket. It took all day, but finally worked. Its all very close fitting, but it works. It also looks like I've got the most complicated trellis frame ever produced to support the rear subframe.

The ventura stuff is really quite impressive, and much stronger than I thought it would be.

I'll post some piccys when i take some.

Ta

Chris

Hey Peter;

Now that you have the HP2S........you can use the 12S to do two up riding.
Speaking of which, how is your love life? Or should we be calling you "LeftHandPeter" once again.

Oh, and when can I take the HP2S out for a day trip like you promised?

Cheers

How do you like the fit of that wolfman tank bag on the R12s? Does it move around much?

I like the fit a lot, it doesn't move around at all. Under the seat, on the pan, are two hook up points for the straps - so I can stuff them under there when not needed. Also, I stuff the front straps into the space in front of the tank and they tuck in nicely. I put 3M paint protection film at all wear/touch points (because I'm anal and black shows everything). The rear one is attached to the 4 loops that are stock and usually tucked under the rear seat. I found a low profile 1 gallon plastic gas can that fits nicely into that too.

Thanks! I might have to pick one of those up, I am not real happy with the way my Cortech fits.

I like that Wolfman tail pack, I need something to carry a few odds and ends on the new R12S.
