Very cool.

Between that and a r100 in the fall BMW Moto mag (In This Issue | BMW Motorcycle Magazine) ... makes me want to undertake a project.

Mmm, wondering if they sell a kit. I've always dreamed about having a r100 based racer with modern parts.

Nice, Tilting tank cover is a killer feature. Of the original two, it looks like the race version uses a total loss system (entire front milled of crankcases except for the ignition canister) but the race version sticks with an alternator, albeit aftermarket. Too cool.

Huh. No fork brace. No additional cross-bracing to the frame. That rear shock is very long and mounted at a somewhat extreme angle. This thing must flex an awful lot during aggressive riding, particularly with those updated sticky tires.

Also, in our experience, we found angular /7 type VCs more durable for track conditions. The round VCs are like egg shells, by comparison.

I noticed the lack of bracing in critical areas, also. I looked for 'hidden' bracing but did not see any.

We were noticing flex on fairly stock /6 and /7s during the latter part of the 90s, due to stickier tires. This bike is a leap over that.

The rear shock top mount on that welded add-on stub really concerns me.

With that rear subframe attached to the narrow frame crossover, I'm guessing this bike is ridden by persons no more than 150 pounds (less than 70 kilos). Even then, it's not a durable solution.

We used to make every attempt at mounting the battery low, in front of the engine or below it toward the rear.

Surprised they kept the electric starter. (We used to bump one of our 920 Nortons, even on the street!)

I've pics of local BMW racers from the early 80s I'll try to find and upload.
