What is the purpose of...

I saw one again yesterday and the curiosity forced me to ask what the symbolism or purpose is of the long strap hanging from the bars near the right handle bar grip of some Hardly Ablesons? Are handlebar tassels not enough (they were on my childhood tricycle) or are these guys simply into self-flagellation as they get whipped while riding down the road?

That right there is funny!!

I see a lot of Harleys every day, but I don't know what you are talking about, maybe find a picture?

jgrm1 09-27-2010 04:54 AM

At the risk of being fired, I googled THAT and did not find a description. Is that you opinion or a real explanation? If that's a real explanation, please expand. I figure there is some meaning behind it. It looks ridiculous, and I figure the more we know, the better the laugh.

Really.....Great another thing hanging off their bikes to get caught in the spokes! I hope they make the whips long enough for that to happen!

PT Barnum was right.

cageyar 09-27-2010 05:29 AM

If you hang it from the right grip, you're hetero, if you hang it from the left grip.......

Now that right there, that's funny. :)

Edited to add:

But not nearly as funny as the website description, "can be removed in case of emergencies."

Would it be covered under my CCW I wonder?

Makes me think of the scene in "Temple of Doom".

Well ya learn something new every day....never seen one of these, but then I don't spend any time admiring Harleys. Wonder who buys the teal/white ones? Maybe left bar hookers?

geothepencil 09-27-2010 07:23 AM

Well unless you are Chris Camp (The Whip Guy, a local entertainer around here), you would be much better off with chains. I guess that means no group buy here.

i would think they would keep those on the front brake lever since "you dont wanna use that anyway".

klennop 09-27-2010 08:12 AM

Plus their left side sees more traffic because god knows they are never passing anything!:D

No that is the question, we can't figure it out either.

Guest24 09-28-2010 04:23 AM

It's for bald H-D riders that can't grow the braided pony-tail. I think it's a Sampson thingy.:D

Droptarotter 09-28-2010 05:10 AM

The damn things aren't even made out of stainless steel...........they suggest using nail polish to "preserve the finish of the clasp and for enhanced rust resistance."

lightfighter 09-28-2010 05:10 AM

Have u seen HD groupie chicks? It's an emergency whip to keep them away from you.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a HD man reject a woman tho, appearance not-with-standing. So maybe they are all about "the woman inside".....

I see LOTS of HD women during Bike Week and Biketoberfest, and I also see LOTS of BMW women at the National and all the other BMW rally's I go to....
I think I'm going to order a set of these things for my bike.
Now, what color goes with the only REAL color a BMW should be, BLACK??
I want to appear interested, but not desperate.
Anyone know a Feng Shui site for motorcyclists?

Guest24 09-28-2010 05:24 AM

A question of who wears the T-shirt?

Harley men wear the T-shirts at Biketoberfest and their women don't. Did I get that right Jerry?

jduke 09-28-2010 05:50 AM

Authorized attire for crusin' Main Street on Friday or Saturday night.
On a good Saturday night, there are so many camera flashes going off, it looks like daylight....

RFAR! 09-28-2010 08:50 PM

AW... Come on.......!

So, What part of style don't you understand?

The HD thing has a part about "looks".

I have a buddy... I asked, Why did you buy that Sportster???

"I like the way it looks..... It really is all as simple as that. It is about a statement.

They like bikes,, I like different bikes.. I love diversity.. Free to choose.. America..

i hope its all in good fun for everyone else, i know it is for me.

besides, i get a kick out of the comments sent the other way 'round when i show up in hog-land on a sewing machine, or just get to talking about riding on with them. most of them are just funnin' too.

:)

We're all at various stages of evolution, so we change as we learn. Even Sonny Barger thinks of the harley as an underpowered air compressor.
