installing a GS ABS switch
 

has anyone had the GS switch wired on their S in order to turn off ABS? and if so, is this possible with the newer version of ABS? Thanks in advance.

Ooohhh major warranty issues !!!!! (Would not advise it !!!)


On the previous ABS version (pre EVO), you could bypass the ABS
activation by quickly starting the bike after ignition switch on. The ABS system needed a minimum amount of power to activate and the ABS system indicators would flash out of sync indicating the ABS is not activated. I know this is not what you are actually looking for, but it is one way to skin a cat.

I do not know about the new EVO system.

On the track the flashing ABS lights does not affect me at all. My eye balls are stuck on the tarmac infront of me, as there are 50 other things to worry about on the track than two little flashing lights on the dash. It helps when you on the track going into bumpy braking zones at speed !!!!

Just wanted to reactivate this thread. Any ideas? My dealer said no, but they also said not to bother with the Staintune and FIM chip.

I almost want to take the entire system out of the bike, but since it's there, just being able to turn it off would be nice.

dont listen to that dealer for one
 

i did not a switch, i decided to go with a boxer cup prep and that solved the matter for me, just put it out of your mind really i have done and seen enough aggressive riding with both the ABS II and ABS III...
as for chip and staintunes...i dont know why you wouldnt. makes the bike right.

If it works, it is hard to argue with the price and lack of warranty hassles with simply starting the bike immediately after turning the key (deliberately faulting the system) and putting a black piece of electrical tape over the flashing lights.

I did do the chip and Staintunes. That's why I suspect the switch could be done. I know the system can be tricked by the quick start approach. I would just like a more elegant solution. This is a f*&*ing $15,000 motorcycle, after all.

I tried that trick; Key off, hold start button and then turn key on, to start. The ABS lights came on (indicating ABS deactivated), but as soon as I rode a few meters/yards, the ABS reactivated it self. Mine has ABSII. The only reason I could see why one would want a disable button, is so one could do stoppies, or rolling burnouts. :D

Mark: I can do stoppies and rolling burnouts without deactivating the ABS.

I want to turn it off so I can stop on gravel, and so tar strips and/or bumps before a stop sign don't cause me to roll into the intersection. That tendency really sucks.

Care to share your secrets?
