I prefer the term 'lane sharing'.

Those that have been at it a long time call it filtering!!,I see this subject raised on US based forums ,if you can't filter why ride a bike,it's the whole idea of getting to the front of the queue

Hi,

You have to filter in the UK there's too many of us.

To get into the City of London, you have to filter past other motrocycles that are filtering cars by the art of under-filtering.

Is filtering legal in Germany?

I've vague memories of it not being.

I also got pulled up by a cop in Dublin once who was upset by my progress, but he couldn't tell me what statute I'd contravened.

This was immediately reinforced by six or seven Irish bikes whipping past in amongst the traffic on the N11.

Apparently in Ireland your not supposed to use the hard shoulder either, but no one seems to have told the populace.

Couldn't make it up

Adrian

Don't trust your fellow 2 wheelers up there? Mostly I wouldn't trust the cagers, figure they'd try to kill you cause you're getting ahead of them.

I wouldn't inherently trust other riders...not all riders are created equal. I can say from experience that the younger the rider the more stupid on a bike they are more likely to be.

It's relative. Everyone younger than me is stupid.

Do you have a motorcycle? What experience?

How old are you?

I'm 28, I had a gixxer750, hubs had a 1000, once the kiddos came along we gave up riding. Hubs is a great rider and rode his entire life. I ride cautiously.. Too many people out there that either don't have the skill or the sense to be safe on the roads, cars and bikes.

Well, this is an old geezer BMW board. Specificaly BMW r1100s and r1200s sport/touring bikes. Some ride gixxers, but usually at the track.

You sound like you and your hubby were in the prime demographic for death and mayham on fast sport bikes of about 16- mid-20s. Your comment makes perfect sense because it's true. Good that you did give up riding for the children.

We absolutely were, that's where the good sense part came in There has been talk of getting bikes again but, cruisers, not crotch rockets. The BMW's are beautiful though and you aren't old geezers..just mature riders no lane splitting happening here.

It's an interesting country you folks have there, you can buy an assault rifle but you can't filter in the traffic because it might be dangerous.

"Might be dangerous" also applies to what is mistitled as an assault rifle... In the hands of an insane person... Or for the politically incorrect - a CRAZY person.

Bearing arms is a right. Operating a vehicle is a privilege. Yeah.

That's because employment is optional. being able to easily kill your fellow man is not.

Go figure.
