R1100S/ Getting a Makeover
I purchased a '99 R1100S from a friend down in South Georgia a few weeks ago with the plan to make a "keeper" to ride in WNC and North Georgia primarily. I thought I'd chronical the evolution the "Donkey Bike" goes through in the coming months. The only thing I've done so far is change the oil and filter. It has 96k miles on the clock and has always been on dyno oil. It is now beating up Mobil 1 15w/50w and a Bosch filter.
This is the bike as it looked when I took delivery. ![]() ![]() T |

I just got these items to get the suspension up to snuff.
The Ohlins have about 500 miles in-service. and the A-arm which will undergo the Motoyoyo 10mm aft mod is donated by a 2000 R1100R. I took a close-up of the spring numbers because they are difficult to see on the front after installation. The Sport adjustable torque arm was part of the initial package. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Powder Coat if you can, or have the time, while items like the A-Arm are off. I even went with new bushings just to be as fresh as possible. Definitely go with the Ohlins adjustable damper. You just never know what you'll need to steer through.
What safety measure will you take to secure your rear adjuster? Braided brake lines -in final bike color? Cheers, keep the pics comin' Nail24! Mark S

A-arm will get powder coated prior to install. Thinking Indigo Blue to match the new wheel color.
I have the beefed up bracket for the pre-load adjuster if that's what you are talking about. Brake calipers will need a make over at some point. |

Powder coat, especially any color satin, is nice. Clear over polished is sweet too, but that's another bike. Good to hear you have a plane for the rear adjustment mount. It's not pretty when it gives up the ghost and drops into the wheel.
Can't say enough about the MotoYoyo's, but then I don't think I have to. Looking forward to more pics! Cheers, Mark S

How's that A-Arm comin' along Bubba? Who's sortin' the fabrication on this?
I got my quick ABS wheel identification BMW Tech authenticated by the way, and considerable confidence in IDing them now. Sweeping a straight edge, while centered on the outer hub axle face, across two disc brake posts reveals either no gap at all (posts are dead level with hub face) for Non-ABS fronts and rears, as well as later rear Integrated ABS wheels with Integrated ABS spacers; then the gap equivalent to either cast ABS-2 rings front and rear, or less for the stamped steel on the fronts. IDing wheels via part #'s can be useless when the numbers are retired, as is the case with all the wheels I have. ![]() Mark S

Mark, that is on the back burner. A very close friend died unexpectedly on Sunday and I'll be occupied with helping the family for the time being.

Hard To Hear News Bubba.
Seriously my deepest empathy to your friend's family and you for your loss. It's always a reality check to be struck with such news of the world beyond our forum's focused musings. All the more so when such news strikes a member. You will no doubt be of great comfort.
Be as well as you can friend, Mark S

Progress Report
I took the Ohlins shocks to Ohlins, USA today to get the true read on the spring rates. The front shock was raised one spring rate and the rear is up two spring rates. The front may be a little stiff for normal street use; but, they said it would be good for track and twisties.
EZ-Rider is doing the machine work on the trailing arm and I'm going to mount the rear shock and adjustable torque arm this weekend. I'll prolly inspect the drive shaft for wear and the change the final drive fluid while I'm there. The 2-bro Y pipe is going to be removed for buffing out on the wheel. I'll have to do it at night because the weather is perfect for riding. Does anyone know how I can check to see if this bike has a ceramic clutch disc other than a tear-down? I don't have a bore scope either. |

Your looking for carbon fiber too....right?
Hey....use your new torque arm to straighten out the Paralever. That little bend is a cruiser dead give-away.

I don't have the proper sized wrenches to Adjust the torque arm, Bob. Could you run over with a couple?

Pull the starter and have look in from there. You really can see quite a bit. Replace some of those rusty plugs and bolts. What is the story with the red wire, O2 replaced?

How's that, RB? Polished the plugs and covered the O2 wire.

Better. The power of suggestion. Did you ever get one of the SS screw kits for the fairings?

I got the SS kit with the bike RB. I found them this morning when I found the long bolt to mount the remote preloader.
