Did a search on axial play and way to much unrelated stuff came up. I know it was visited here not to long ago, but what is considered in limits for the rear carrier bearing axial play. I can put a dial indicator on the wheel, but if I can feel it I think it has to be to much. Have been wrong before.

My understanding is there should be none. But are you sure it's not the swingarm bearings either worn or loose? If they're snug, there's plenty of info here to loosen and retorque the FD pivot bearings.

I will break out the manual and look at the FD pivot bearing specs. Thanks at least I am moving forward now. Hard to isolate the two no doubt.

The swingarm is the easiest. On the left side, remove lock nut, remove and clean the pivot pin and reinstall and retorque.

The FD is more involved but basically the same. If the pivot bearings are shot, on an 05 probably not, but if they are now would be the time to consider bronze bushings. |

Or better yet, properly installed and torqued stock bearings. Done right, they hold up better than bearings. You can always snug up and paralever pivots and see if the play goes away. If not, then the final drive carrier bearing will need checking or shimming (mine became loose not too many miles after new, but has been fine since.)

Try adjusting the left pivot pin. You have to use heat to break down the loctite. Clean it and install to proper tightness. I did mine about 2000 miles ago and it has been fine.

I put in new Para-Lever Pivot Bearings with a liberal amount of Moly Grease on the needle bearings - no problems since then. The factory put very little grease on those brearings...mine had red dust on them.
