BCR whining starter

My starter whines when bike is cold, doesn't when bike is hot. Is this impending starter failure or something more mundane ?

if its a screech, then it is not disengaging quickly enough and could use a greasing. easy job

My starter began screeching a few months ago. Today, I removed the starter, cleaned it up & regreased the pinion gear & shaft. Put it back together & now it the motor starts with no extra sound effects.
