Not to discount the hard precision work of the people doing the assembly, but what truly facinates me is the engineers that coordinate the process itself, figguring out all the movements of the robots and the timing of the assembly line...wow!

...well..., maybe they are waiting for you...

As I learned when I started building rifles, when your avocation becomes your vocation, it all changes. I won't make that mistake again.

When I had an extended tour of the factory in '77, they had draft beer in the company cafeteria. Lot of hand work back then. The Berlin Wall was still up.

I tried to visit Berlin in '77 Dean, but the AF wouldn't let me.

In Germany there was a German base next door to our base, no doubt keeping an eye on us, however, we shared some assets with our allies. I had the opportunity to go to their site once to work on some crypto on the circuit between the two facilities. Thay had the same deal, large room full of equipment, air handlers, etc, but it was quiet, very quiet compared to any other equipment room I had been in. I asked and they said it was a requirement, I think something similar to OSHA, but it was very nice. Also the cleanest facility I had ever been in. This was in the 90s so equipment was much larger and bulkier back then, but when I started watching these videos that was the first thing I noticed.

I also like the lab coat environment....very professional. I had a tour from a manager at the BMW plant in SC. very nice place. They even pipe the methane gas off the main landfill from Greenville for heat and power. Went in the Honda plate in Florence SC, same thing lab coat type uniform.....you see a GM plant on TV and some have tank tops, bud light shirts and hats on backwards....looks stupid.

Looked at even frame. Could almost smell the welding fumes, paint cooking, oil and new tires. Would be nice to have a set of those measuring gauges don't you think, wow. Thanks

I'd never thought of this before, but how do you think they manage to get the timing chains / TDC stuff all done on a production line?
I've often read of our groups difficulties in getting all that valve timeing setup after a little ecavation into the engine, but to do it on a production line? He just seemed to stretch the chains out and pop them in, or did I miss something? Thanks RooLoo. Adrian |

I like those little cnc fingers that come out and measure things that look like ET's finger.
