RR - Our future's so bright, we gotta wear shades
look out for a ride report coming your way from down under
here's a little taste, hopefully there won't be any group photos like this me sorting out my tank bag issues - when I get some wool in my hands I can't be trusted:

That pic gives us a good idea what it would look like if a Yetti decided to rape one of our bikes

the way over the top
(no flattie I don't fit on that thing)
Excellent weekend even if I was the only decent bloke there, we cut it a bit short today (SundaY) (Friday) the day for me started at 4.15am when the alarm went off, this is my normal get up time and after going to work and delivering on the ct110 I got home and headed off about 1pm, I'm just adding the early rise because I had it so easy I need to make it appear that it was tough in some regard the shortest of journeys for me, only a couple of hundred k's this is a little place in Omeo which is about 40 or 50k's from Hotham (Hotham is the peak of the mountain pass for me) Always liked the look of that little cottage for some reason, so I took a pic ![]() here is the old Omeo pub ![]() plenty of these signs around and on the way up into Hotham it was foggy and damp ![]() I saw a coppa following someone in the opposite direction and my speedo was at120 - I tried not to make it look too obvious that I was attemtping to wash off some speed. About 20 minutes later and still going over the limit by about 20 a car came up on me from behind and the alarm bells rang. Slowed down to the limit and the car caught me. Yep sure enough, twas the coppa that had been heading in the other direction. He must have been hooking in pretty hard to turn around and catch me up. Pretty much as soon as I had slowed he put the lights on and pulled me over. Nice guy didn't bust my arse, told me about a heap (2500) cyclists that would be in the area and some roads would be closed during the weekend. Put me on the breathalizer, checked my rego and even though I wasn't carrying my bike rego he didn't bust my chops over that either. Didn't tell me to slow down, said have a good one and went on his merry way. What a bloody fantastic bloke eh? ![]() I have got some video of being pulled over and some other stuff which is pretty amateurish but hey more to come - hopefully the other fellas got home/ getting home safe, Kevin had a long way to go Last edited by chewie; 03-12-2011 at 11:38 PM.. |

He is not a fantastic bloke, he is a dickhead. He shouldn't have pulled you over in the first place. There should be no speed limits on the open road. His picture portrays him as an arrogant arsehole. Someone should shoot the prick, and make the world a better place. |

Well Rich', opinions are like arseholes too - everyone's got one
I thought it was funny how he was standing there but I did ask if I could get a pic for our International brothers as I thought they may get a kick out of it. He was surprised, it probably doesn't happen that often and I thought he may even say no but he didn't. Mate he didn't book me even though I know he knows I know I was speeding. All he said was "have you been over the top before?" to which I said "once" and he replied "take it easy mate the conditions aren't great" as for the breathalizer, well the Omeo Pub is only half an hour back down the road and I'm sure people have a counter meal with a beer or two and then jump back on their bikes and manage to ride off the cliffs, serve and protect and all that but like I said, you are entitled to your opinion |

Actually he's right to pull over anyone he likes up in that area given the number of drink driving and speeding related crashes around Omeo / Hotham etc - if a few RBTs reduce that number then he's doing a good job. At least in this instance (unlike some police) he showed some common sense and restraint and resisted the urge to make a wanker of himself. He probably could have lobbed a speeding fine around but chose not to - no problems there. I'm with Chewie - you're entitled to your opinion but frankly, anyone who thinks the world would be a better place without good cops around has some serious problems... |

Arrived home at 7.30pm. Rained most of the way and I was held up for 40 minutes between Cooma and Canberra with several hundred metres of the road under water and lots of debri. Will make a bit of a report tomorrow as my internet connection is very slow for some reason tonight.

I'm with Chewie. I'll take time to yak on the roadside over getting busted, any day. And NO, I don't have a "Get out of Jail Free" card, Jeff.

Thanks Jon and Rod for making this happen.
To be honest, I didn't know how well I would manage this ride having had some health problems this last year and not being on the bike since last July. I had a great time, met two really nice people for the first time, plenty of riding, good chats and good food. It was a pleasure to ride with John and Rod. They are safe, responsible and mature in their approach, know when to push and have fun and when to ease back a little. My trip started on Thursday Morning... Top up with fuel. ![]() Heading down the Hume Highway. ![]() Pulled in to a tourist rest area near Gundagai. ![]() ![]() Coming out of Tumut there are two very long wooden bridges across the flood plain. ![]() Then on to Batlow, which is where a lot of our apples are grown. ![]() After staying overnight at Tumbarumba, I then turned down Elliot's way towards Mount Selwyn and then turned of towards Khancoban. This road winds through the Snowy Mountains and is very picturesque. I didn't get many pictures because it was raining. ![]() ![]() Tumut 2 is an underground power station. ![]()
