starting points for R1200s suspension setup
I just received my rebuilt and upgraded Ohlins shocks from ProPilot, and am looking for any insight into starting places for compression & rebound adjustments, especially now that I have the added adjustment up front. I have (obsessively) read through all of the previous threads regarding sags and the like (35F, 30R) but I couldn't find anyone or any tech sheets recommending a starting point for the clickers.
How do you know where to start ?? thanks mucho!! jv

I would call propilot and ask them where to begin after the sag is set.

First thing to do is count the total number of clicks each adjustment has.
So, crank it down (not loose out), when it stops turning, unwind to the first click, that's your starting point of 0... now count each click out til you get all the way loose. You'll feel the clicker get loose to the point where it does nothing. Halve that number and that's your middle ground. Set all clickers to the 50/50 number then ride, that is, unless you have a 'shock dyno' like Brad has in his back yard. Adjust from that 50/50 baseline as needed.

John, I am interested in doing the mod on my shocks, do you have any pictures of the shocks before and after installing?

R12s Ohlins upgrade
the work that Jim @ ProPilot did for me is a lot like what the link to Carlton's thread describes. I had the rear rebuilt & added a hydraulic preload adjuster, and on the front, a rebuild/upgrade to a divided gas piston w/ remote resevoir, which adds compression adjustment. In an effort to keep costs down (!!) and thinking about my needs, i decided I didn't need the hydraulic preload adj on the front unit. I don't have any before/after pics of the installation, but here's how the units came back to me.
The bike has 30K miles, and the front was feeling pretty boing-y. Of course it gets this way progressively over time, so I really excited to see how the fresh suspenders feel ... probably like a new bike!! (a month or so ago, I had the bike put on a dyno to make sure all was well. runs really healthily, and now with the suspension upgrade, I feel like the bike should be good to go for the next few thousand miles. Bring it on !!! I take some pics during the re-install (which a shop is doing for me so I don't screw anything (more?) up. They'll work w/ me to set sags, and I got info from ProPilot about some starting points re the clicky-bits. If anyone cares to share their #s, I think that that info would be a great addition to the other R1200s suspension info floating around in these archives. ![]()

Thanks, what was the cost for this and how much time to turn around?

costs are about $1K, as outlined in Carltons link: Upgrading the R1200S Ohlins
but there are ways to save $$ or spend more if you want the front hydraulic preload adj, or if you need a different spring. Lead time was only 10 days or so, door to door....
