R12S - paint question (red/silver/black)

So I have the "candy cane", "tiger stripe", or whatever you want to call the Red/Silver/Black combo.

I was wondering if anyone else on the forum did and if they can tell me if the black lines are under the clear coat or not on theirs? Mine are not and I though that this is funny coming from BMW and then I started to think, what if the guy I got it from or the dealer who used it as a demo did this?

Please let me know if yours are under the clear or not. Thanks-

I believe the early ones came without clear coat and the later ones did.

I have a R1200S "Candy Cane" and the black is on top of the clear, it is almost like a thin tape. I would have preferred paint under the clear coat, but have not seen one finished that way.

Have a nice summer, Craig

you might consider having some pro add a layer of clear coat. The stickers get dirty and grimmy on the borders eventually and lift and peel after about 8 years...

Because this is what happens to most vinyl stickers, I don't see why it would be different for the 12s.

Yeah at this point I have one very small blemish in the black but wish that would have been under the clear.

My next question is this:

Has anyone had issues with the clear coat coming up/off around the headlight? I went to the national Moto Guzzi rally this weekend. Cleaned the bike Wed night before I left on Thursday morning. Then cleaned it last night (Sunday) after I returned and while I was cleaning it a few dime sized spots of clear came off to the right side of the headlight (looking at the bike from the front). I just about fell over and my stomach started turning in knots. There was dead bugs all over the area from Thursday to Sunday and I had to take about 30 miles of 1 lane construction but other than that the bike was treated as it normally is. I was it with McGuire's by hand as well.

Anyone had these types of issues?
