R1100S hugger source
 

Hi All,
I'm in big need of a new or used hugger, and like many others here I've looked at the Bestem CF ones for sale on ebay. Looks like that isn't such a reliable option at this time, so I'm asking "where would YOU go to get a hugger today?"

yes, of course money is a factor, so no buying from overseas or out of the BMW catalog. :eek:

I looked at about every brand I could find and bought a Pyramid version. Wide enough to fit a 5.5" wheel.

I'm 200 miles into my test of the Bestem hugger. If I run it on a trip to a rally and back, it will get over 1000 miles of various roads. I did contact Bestem about my concerns for the flimsy strut and the fact that they did not finish the strut off at the base. I painted it with black wrinkle finish which looks acceptable. The Ilmberger is cf covered to the base if I remember correctly. The used hugger market appears to be directly connected to the sale and "de-blinging" of bikes in an effort to recoup previous investments. Most bling that is sold with the bike brings less of a net gain to the seller from what I've observed.

I went this way instead of the hugger. Keeps all the goo off the shock, won't rub on tire & weighs less. Also keeps that open look to the rear.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the name / source for that little item?

Nylon sock, any type will do.

That one is from Ohlins (BIG white letters on other side) also Dirt Skinz sells the same thing with a pile of different graphics.

I notice from the picture the sock doesn't protect the exhaust pipe too well. Lol.

It would be covered in clayey mud after a couple days on my bike.

But I do agree that the hugger doesnt compliment the back end so well on the 1100s...
I also see my new shocks getting crapped up, that cant be good for the shiny parts!

Hugger or sock, I need to do something.

This is the way I see it. If you want to protect just the shock put on a sock. If you want to protect the $1000+ exhaust, shock and everything else back there. Put on a hugger.

wanting to sleep well at night, i did both.
belt/suspenders, hugger/shock sock (traction dynamics version).

But, what do I do to protect the "huggie." Is there a "huggie" condom? What next, Glad Wrap on my Arai to protect it from the love bug juice. I wish I had the cardboard wrapper that my bike came in.

Actually I had a hugger & it didn't prevent the pipe from getting mucked up anyway. The stainless isn't stainless. As for cleaning the sock I just squirt it with water when washing the bike, never really cleaned it past that. Nail just wrap youself & bike in a big condom available at any good costume shop. :)

I rinse my bike in massengill after every ride and store it in an oxygen chamber. Hose it with Lysol before every ride.

Your point is well taken, I'm looking for a huggger....

Plus, there might be bad voodoo if I overheat the shock with that wrapper!

can't decide which sheet of carbon I want to spend $300 on. some look spindly, some look cheap, any recommendations with pic are appreciated.

Yeah, that was mentioned on a previous thread but it might just insulate it from the heat of the exhaust & keep it cooler. Either way I've never felt any deterioration of the ride or damping when haulin' azz in the twisties.
