Bagster Tank Cover/Bag for HP2 Sport
I got my Bagster setup for the HP2S Friday, and installed it for my ride yesterday. I ordered it from Motorcycle Heaven in the UK, and it took around four weeks to get it from the day I ordered it.
If you've got an HP2S, you know that your luggage choices are limited to say the least. The carbon rear subframe rules out soft panniers, and the shape of the tank makes it very hard to find a tankbag that really fits. I've seen the Bagster stuff for years in UK magazines, but I was never at a loss for finding satisfactory luggage for any of my other bikes and never thought of ordering it. I was pleased to see that they made a package for the HP2S. It consists of a tank cover that allows you to use any one of a number of their tankbags. In my case, I went with one they call the Minea, which they say has a 12L capacity that expands to 21L. It's a low-profile bag with sleek lines and a big map pocket, and I ordered it in white to match the bike. The tankcover has a couple of quick-release fittings at the front, and the spring clips on the tankbag itself clip into the fittings at the rear of the tank cover. The tankbag has shoulder straps that slide in behind the bottom cover and pull out so it can be used as a backpack. The cover was pretty easy to fit. It has a three attaching straps at the front, one going around the steering head and two on each side to the front fairing supports. There are two side straps on each side that hook onto the bottom of the side fairing. I installed it in a hurry, and I don't have the fuel filler hole lined up very well, since I didn't have time to remove the seat and pull it all the way back. I'll go back and heat up the cover with a blow dryer and stretch it into a better position with the seat off. I put around 300 miles on the bike with the bag yesterday, and it came in very handy. I hit top speeds of close to 130mph, and didn't notice any aerodynamic issues. It's extremely secure on the bike, and easy to take on and off for fuel stops. I wanted something I could use for a few days on the bike; basically a pair of shoes, a couple of days of clothes, toiletries, tire repair and tool kit. I think it's a pretty good setup! The bag looks very nice as well. The colors match the lines of the bike, and the texture of the grey sections even looks a lot like carbon fiber. They even make a cover to match the BMW Motorsports livery. Price was around $360US shipped. Here are a few pics, drop me a line if you have any questions. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Joe, a most definite slick set up, very slick. If you want to employ a tank bag on the HP2s that's what I would choose as well.
Thanks for the pics, |

It's got some funky venting/mesh thing for the exhaust can. Plus any straps would actually rest on the side of the can.

There are numerous issues. BMW cautions against mounting anything on the rear of the bike, and you can see why. The rider is supported under the main trellis frame, and the subframe does little but support the exhaust and rear light/license assembly, both of which are pretty light. Carbon is strong, but it was never meant to carry much weight. The tailpiece also gets pretty hot, and the bodywork is practically part of the exhaust system, which vents through it. The bolts mounting the bodywork directly on the exhaust are even expandable to compensate for the extreme heat. Even if you were to take a chance and mount soft panniers over the tailpiece, you'd have a hard time finding someplace to strap them to. The rear light/license bracket is feather-lite, and there are no passenger peg brackets or other fixed points at the back of the bike to latch onto. The only time the bike ever seems to get uncomfortably warm is under sustained higher rpms, like 30+ mile stretches of highway at 80-90mph, and after 20 minutes of constant running the seat is really cooking, as in worse than my 1098, which is an accomplishment! Around town or under varying loads (riding twisties) it's hardly noticeable (traffic and around town on the 1098 was a scalding experience).

My solutions:
My favourite is the Bags Connection Day bag. It can hold a few tools, face shield spray, compressor and an electric vest if expanded. The larger Bags Connection Engage XL is a little intrusive into the cockpit, but can carry a few more things and allows you to rest on it and relieve the pressure on the arms. It's nice that these bags do not touch the tank and I can easily swap them between bikes. Day bag.......... ![]() Expanded........ ![]() Engage XL bag........ ![]() Cheers

Aren't those the S1000RR mirrors?
Actually no... I think they may be the Hornig extensions... HP2Sport/ Mirrors from other BMW's that fit?

Here are a couple more full bike pics. In sunlight the tank cover matches the bodywork quite well, but under my garage lights the tank cover looks much brighter white than the bodywork. I'll post another pic when I get the bike out this weekend. Getting home in the dark with the time change really sucks!

Rear load handling capacity...
Myth?
Sergio, I am going to rebuild that prototype - it is custom formed to a Wolfman tail bag. If you're want me to I'll make you one over the winter - going to powder coat the next version. ![]()
