Anyone BCR dreaming with too much money?

There is a guy here in OZ selling an 03 BCR that was only road registered 2 years ago and has since only travelled 700klms.
The story is that it was purchased new by a collector who sold it to this guy in 2010.
It passed in for just under A$12000 on ebay and after exchanging a couple of emails with him it seems he wants A$16000+
Just for the record I dont have too much money so I dropped out.

I sure don't understand that.

According to an on-line currency calculator I used the Australian dollar is just about the same as the American dollar. I went to the link for the BCR and bids are up to around $11,000 dollars!

That seems CRAZY to me because all the BCRs I ever see for sale on Pelican or on Ebay aren't selling, or are going for around $5,000 - $7,000 at the MOST. Granted, they have miles, but are always pretty clean. I find it difficult to believe you could get that much more for it just because of the super-low miles and the "collector" status, but that must be the reason.

Huh.

Tim, many things down here are more expensive than in the US and in particular vehicles of any kind.
In this free trade market there is absolutely no reason for it however the importing maufacturers ask whatever they think that the market can bear and its not a big market. 22 million people.
A new R1200 RT SE here is $33k on the road and a good clean low mileage 02 -03 non BCR R1100s will sell for $7000 - $9000.
Having said that, this is a big ask for this bike. Based on what ive already said I think that the $11k plus money that has been bid is probably the right money if you really wanted one.

I love the BCR as well but as others have noted the bike is obsolete and antiquated. 70RWHP 500lbs and a boxer engine with high maint compared to modern bikes...

Have you considered a used Ducati 749 or 999? I am in the market for one again and they are EXCELLENT bikes!

Ouch, my 04 should probably be thrown out then. Wonder if I can get antique plates for it.

It's all about character. Sure, I'll buy other bikes, but I'll never get rid of my S. I absolutely love it.

Hi Tim,

The 2nd hand market down under is very limited and hence prices are high. In fact very high to ridiculous.
The market for new stuff is very limited too and prices have been slightly higher than in Europe based on exchange rates of approx. 0.6 to the Euro and 0.75 to the US $. With the Euro and the US $ taking a plunge unfortunately the prices didn't follow suit making it even more expensive....
Nevertheless asking for more than 12K$ for a BCR is quite a bit too much.

Remind me to ship mine down under when I decide to sell. I could probably double what I paid for it even with a ton of miles(km's).

i thought about that as well when I sold the R12S, but I don't think it is simple on either end or cheap. here is a site that explains some of the details.

International Motorcycle Shipping - Ship Bike from USA. Get Rates.

And all thats before you hit the wall of safety compliance checks and local plating that needs to be done here.
If it was easy all of us Aussies would be having a cheap US holiday and bringing a container of bikes home.

There are companies out there that do that for a living, BUT shipping costs for a single bike will be considerable (don't ask how I know...)
And for permanent import you will need an import approval, pay import duty/tax and get it compliant (which will require at least front beams compliant to left-hand traffic).
Doubtful to be worthwhile unless you want to permanently relocate, imho.
