ABS III, bypassed
At a local BMW dealer today, I noticed their 'track use' R1100S ABS III model had an interesting brake mod. The front master cylinder was directly linked to the front calipers with braided lines. One of the old rubber lines was used to plug/patch the in-out lines to the ABS system. The rear brake lines were unmodified, and the ABS is functional there, just no front ABS. The front electrical setup was still in place to keep the rear functioning with rotaional speed.

Sounds interesting... I suppose there is less chance for the rear to come around if you can't lock it up, and you get more control over the front.. You could do a controlled slide with less worry... Hmmm....

Can someone confirm that the '02 S has Evo brakes (ABSIII)? Last time I looked all '02 Ss had the old ABSII and we were "bypassed" allright...in getting any new technology.

Definately has ABS/EVO and Integral brakes
Just took possession of my Marrakesh Red 2002 beauty 3 weeks ago.
It has ABS, the bigger Evo calipers and rotors AND integral brakes. CarlosT, maybe what you were looking at were leftover 2001's? I suspect that the dealer did this bypass to de-integrate the brakes if it is a 2002, which could be to some advantage on the track. On the road however, I gotta say these brakes STOP.

Two easy checks can verify EVO IABS on an '02 S. Turn the key to the ON position pull the lever or jab the pedal and listen for the servo motor also, the calipers are marked BMW instead of Brembo. Some bikes have Tokico calipers and some have Brembo, you can find out which by looking for a stamping mark on the inside part of the caliper. BTW, the S is partial integral, which means that when jab the rear brake, you only get rear brake. Grab a handfull of lever and you get front and rear. This would explain why the dealer bypassed the front on the bike you saw.

As I was saying, my 2002 has all of that. Bigger BMW calipers and rotors. Not a brembo in site. The bike is also servo assisted and has the partial integral.

I stand corrected. I saw one of the new brown metallic Ss at a dealer that had the old Brembos. Maybe very early 2002s have ABSII.

Carlos,
What country are you in? Brown Metallic isn't in the American/Canadian or German palatte. if it is like the metallic burnt orange on the F650CS, that would look hot! Very reminicent of the R90S Daytona Orange. Custom job, maybe?
