holiday weight gain chart

So the holidays are upon us

i forget the formula to calculate horsepower and the effect 10-20 lbs has on our rides. but i figure my preload knob and damping adjusters will need some fiddling with for my new years day ride

checked today. after a little 32 mile bicycle ride. 178 lbs. estimate i will be close to 200 new years day. . anyone else prone to pounding down groceries in the winter months.

cue left cost guys to ask what i mean by winter.....

178 to 200 in 5 weeks is not healthy William!

I once read a statistic that said the average adult American will never weigh less than he does on the day before thanksgiving. Seems believable and I use that bit of data to make sure I don't let it happen to me, so I always weigh myself the day before and make sure I get below it at some point in the next year!

I've come to the conclusion that it's easier to eat too much year-round. Thanksgiving and Christmas just blend in...

Winter used to be an immense chore for me. But last year the good MD cleared me for more strenuous stuff. So now I hike after the ground freezes and snowshoe for an hour at a time when we have enough cover. That helps quite a bit.

the main problem just like drinking booz is the binging, therefore you are clearly better off drinking and eating alot ALL the time, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it

How can it be a boring route if you're only riding it every other week? You need to make it boring by riding that route every other day!

You need more hills to give you more of this

and when you get home you need less of this

bummer, ain't it?

Well I ride it plus little farther, 3 times a week in the summer. it is my after work route on m-w-f Then I ride with friends on a longer, more scenic route somewhere else on weekends...
With short days and cold weather. I don't do the m-w-f rides now, so my weekly mileage drops from over a hundred to 30-50 miles.

Boring because it is just flat rice fields. but nice wide shoulder so I am not out in traffic.

I think this link will take you to my routes history.

http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com/UserProfile.aspx?userid=205742&ref=nf

edit.. nope it just shows the last few rides. I managed around 1,100 miles so far this year. Not as good as previous years. hopefully next year will allow for more riding time.

Since the topic has turned to rides, and posting of same, I presume y'all are riding with a GPS? Bike-specific, or general purpose?

I thought I was making a big upgrade 5 years ago when I finally bought a wireless bike computer; now it looks like the smart guys are migrating to various handlebar-mounted gps products instead. Thinking about switching... again.

I've gone from being a GPS-phobe to being GPS-centric due to an aluminum sheetmetal project I'm working on. So far, I've built 3 of them into the thing.

I have computers on my bikes already for cadence, and mileage..avg speed...
I just use my Iphone (ALLSPORT GPS) for keeping records so I can see at end of each year how much fun I had. I just click start before riding, stop and upload when done. everything else takes care of itself.

I should've known. Yet another iPhone app. Thanks.

I just stick with a basic wired cycling computer and a separate heart rate monitor.
As much as I love new technology with my cycling I also try and keep it simple.
Maybe that's why I still love my old steel bikes and my fixed wheel.
I will continue to ride over the holidays to keep my weight in check.
Cheers
