R1200/HP2 Hybrid

Someone has added the chin fairing and rear body panels from an HP2 Sport to their R1200S.

Catalyst racing in San Diego manufactures sells some replica HP2 parts made of fiberglass. Not sure how easily they could be attached to the R1200S chassis.

I didn't listen to the audio but I think the images look nice.

The Hybrid I would like is to stick the DOHC HP2S engine into the R1200S. oink. I actually like the R1200S look quite a lot as it is.

But that is pretty cool.

I considered doing that to my R12S, but decided I would be better off getting an HP2S. I made the right choice!

IMO both bikes are very pleasing to the eye. The HP2S looks striking from every angle even on paper or in print.

For some reason I feel some of the R1200S' beauty seems to get lost when photographed. Don't get me wrong, the 12 is a good looking bike but I feel that you need to see her in the flesh to truly appreciate all the lines and angles of the body work.

I am leaning toward the purchase of a chin fairing from Catalyst Racing. I would like to modify the fairing so that I can keep the center section between my headers and cut clearance holes further back so the pipes can return to the collector.

Everyone is different. I prefer more of the naked look with the motor hanging out there as opposed to chin pieces and shrouding.

One of the main reasons that Ive stuck with the R12S instead of springing for an HP2. I just think the 12S looks better.

I think they're both great looking bikes, you can't go wrong with either, but honestly I think the R1200S is a better all round road bike, and the HP2S is a better track bike, but then that should hardly be a suprise.

What suprised me about my HP2S was how rough the motor is, I guess it doesn't have the balancer shaft the R & the Megamoto do, but as well as the wrist aching, neck straining riding position, I really didn't care for the buzz of the motor, and those two combined are why I decided to let it go.

The secret of life is ride what makes you happy!! :-))

Macfly;
Did you sell the HP2S already?
I love the feel of my HP2S motor and although not quite as good as an all arounder than the 12S, it is more comfortable for me for longer day rides.

Cheers

I guess I'm getting old, passed the half century mark now, and really like the riding position of the Megamoto. It'll get me up to 120, which is as fast as I ever need to go now, and only weighs 375lbs, which is about right for me, I love lightness!!

A friend here in LA wants the S, so although it is still sitting in my garage, it's new owner has 'claimed' it.

Have you weighed it? That seems a little light.

That DOES sound a bit optimistic on the weight for a megamoto.

The HP2S is a helluva bike, no doubt, but have you priced the body pieces ? Sheeze ! That chin piece is gonna ruin your day if you scrape it.

By the way, wet weight on a Megamoto is 441 pounds according to official specs. That is still light for a 1200.

Yep, my Xchallenge with luggage rack and bag mounts is 368 wet according to my scale, which made me question that weight. But yes, for an R1200 the megamoto is a feather. My R1200S is 480ish, or perhaps 490ish, I don't have the number in front of me.

Leafman, Dry weight is 395lbs for the Megamoto as per BMW's own specs that I copy/pasted here.

Junk the stock exhaust, battery and some other little bits and bobs, and you can get 20lbs off it quick, for 375lbs.

It only has a 3.5 gallon tank, and a couple of quarts of oil, which won't give you 45 lbs,
3.5 gals @ 6lbs a gal = 21lbs
Oil maybe = 5lbs
So gassed up and ready to go mine should be right on 400lbs.

and I never saw a 441lb wet weight figure before anywhere, and I've been running the site and riding the bike for a while now, so not sure where that's from.

LeftCoast Peter, I will for sure, the easy thing about selling it my my friend is he wants the painted plastic body work too, and is happy to take everyone all in one go. I like an easy sale!! :-)

Macfly;
If Peter takes the bikes, I would be interested in the body work and that would make it an easy sale as all bits would be coming to the same area.
Something to think about as you did scoop me out of the sale of your bike!

Cheers

HP2S Chin spoiler/Belly Pan

I have one that I was going to install on my R1200s, But have decided not to alter the looks of the 12S, I may be willing to part with it, If anyone wants to have this BMW CF Pan, Or maybe someone needs a new one with no damage?
