I also have to say that I now have found the total solution for luggage.
I sold my factory cases just a few weeks before the trip, thinking that I want to try the soft luggage I have had for a long time for the Sporty.
I fabricated some support brackets to my liking and that setup worked out very well, actually... less the part where I had to fiddle with the straps for a while to get the bags on and off... and the fact that some of the stuff got a little wet in harder rain.
I use the Pelican case on the back for my camera, but it is impractical, being that I usually have stuff strapped on top of it, making it less likely for me to actually change lenses when I should...
So, now I will improve on the brackets I made for the soft bags and mount two Pelican 1550 cases to them, the I will add a saddlemen T3200 Tailbag and use the stock BMW Top case as my man-purse, as my wingman has told me to.

Based on my long distance traveling experience, that ought to do and I will not really need to carry anything on top of my stuff anymore... short of tires and maybe the odd gas can.

Now I need to plan a trip to test that setup... rats!

...our little campground next to the road leading up to Bannock Pass in Idaho.

Guess where?

Nevada City...

... leading us into the Madison Valley!

Quake Lake, just before we reached Hebgen Lake in West Yellowstone... the lake was created by an earth quake in 1959, but the destruction is still visible and makes one think.

...our shack at Hebgen Lake

...and the shabby view we had to endure.

...strolling by with all the time in the world.

...natural Beauty.

...spitting Image!

R.I.P.

Reflections...

...and natural sculptures.

...yet, we kept rolling undivided.

...after we visited the Lilly Pond.

What a place to relax.

Until Rico had to ruin it by posing...

a view at the big boobs...

The end of the road?

How we got there...

A lot of the thoughts going through my head on the ride home were about KTM 990s and R1200GSs. The Xchallenge is a great bike, and is good for touring believe it or not. But crossing the desert at high speed is not that bike's forte.

I figure I will be on a big Adventure bike next year. I did tell Brian I want to get a GS when we were at breakfast in Alpine, but we will see.

A stormy evening at the flaming Gorge...

...really flaming!

The way down into Black Canyon.

and in the Canyon.

... a perfect place to fly-fish!

Perfect indeed.

Getting ready to leave the canyon.

...and then there was this hooligan... no one knows who he was.

One last glance.

Aspens...

Horsee and the Aspen Trees.

Lunch in Crested Butte.

Somewhere along Ohio Pass.

...meeting place.

Ominous skies and a balanced rock.

Ominuos, indeed...

Re-formation...

A coupe of holes in the rock.

...and the whole rock.

Somewhere in Utah

Mossy Cave, Utah (near Bryce)

Rico and the waterfall.

The Heroes reach the last park in Utah...

Sergio with a whole lot of nothing underneath.

...and the view that awaited at the end of the trail.

and a view in the other direction.

...and in the end, Sergio's bike was tired and took a rest.

This is it from me, folks... I have more pictures but these are the ones I deemed most appealing. I hope you will enjoy!

It was great to finally meet many of the people I felt I have known for years. The only regret was not having the video going when we pulled up, Dee was speechless, which does not happen often.

I would like to say this will be a regular trip, but 30 hours each way, if we take the slab, is just a bit much. The riding and comradery was great, even the weather wasn't too bad.

You think Dee was speechless?... Bill was darn near in tears when he saw Tom... Heck, EVERYBODY was... even I started to get infected and I had never met the guy before.

The two of you showing up, added a LOT to the show.It lifted the mood, the spirits and - of course - made my tire change a lot easier.

Sergio had you pegged as a "softy" after the first few hours... and he would know!
