Looks like I have the Sergemeister on board now... matter of fact, HE actually brought it up.

I'd love to make it a trip to get there and even more of a trip to make it back (say, via Canada or Alaska...) but I'll be just as happy to spend a few days on the road with a good friend.

Either way, whether he can pry himself form the tortures of daily life or not.. this year, I am in. I can't really see what life could throw at me this year, that could possibly prevent me from finally coming to the TOR...

We just sold Crystal's Trek Madone road bike yesterday to a nice couple who lives in Cave Creek in the winter and Paonia in the summer. Their house is across the river from the park over where the wineries are. We'd have begged for a room during the rallye but we now have a condo in Crested Butte so it's doubtful we'll spend more than a night in Paonia this year....and I like the park.

In other words, we'll be there again this year..but maybe with real dirt bikes. Hmm...or a van full of rental bicycles?

I am in, but things do happen. Fell and slid about 10' down the driveway Monday, while shoveling snow. No damage to the body, just a little stiffness.

I plan to make the ride out and enjoy some of what the wild west has to offer! Might even have some ridng companions this year?

My first time may be the last. The whole rally experience was foul, as in the group I rode up with, the place I stayed was nice but to inaccessible and far, and I never met the group.

I may hit the June RA in Colorado instead. Soory all.

Well, I can see some of your points. I don't know who 95% of the people are at the rally, if I was just looking at the tents and people. But, it had been repeatedly stated that the "group" camps under the scoreboard so it's kind of on you to walk over and meet people. Nobody is going to know who you are when just milling around.

Also, I would never suggest a B&B away from the park. Especially if you don't know anyone. Because you will leave and still not know anyone.

Finally, as is true in any small town in Colorado or Utah, you need to like the outdoors and finding your own fun. Towns (like the rally site) are just base camps. Many people don't like that, or the restaurants, lack of entertainment, etc. They are used to city life. So if you don't find fun riding the remote highways and absorbing the scenery - even if by yourself, then it probably isn't your cup of tea.
