No more oil usage !
Last winter (2001/2002) i got an agreement on checking the engine with the Norwegian BMW importer, on basis of oil usage (and oil in the air box) on my 2000' model.
When my local dealer demounted the cylinders, they found something interesting. On each cylinder the gap of the cylinder rings was mounted side by side, and not with 180 rotation of the gaps. Corresponding was the gap of the inner oil ring, mounted with the gap down, so it could not work properly as an oil ring on a boxer engine. This has all resulted in compression leakage to the crankcase, which again has resulted in an permanent oil spray in the air box. And therefore permanent oil burning. After my local dealaer and BMW Norway (with all honour) has fixed/replaced all the cylinder rings, and mounted them correctly things seem very good. For the first the oil is still clear in the inspection window after 1000km (and not dark as before), and i have no oil consumption. I'm very glad ![]()
