Warning Light
Quick question...
I'm on tour and don't have my manual with me...silly me, i know. Now then, the Warning Light (not the 'Brake Failure' Light, but the one with the triangle and '!' in it) comes on when I turn the key to ON. it usually stays on for a few seconds while the ABS checks itself and then it turns off while 'Brake Failure' flashes until I drive 3-5mph. Today when I got on the bike, after it had sat out in the rain for 20 or so hours, I turned the key to ON and the Warning Light did not turn off after it's normal 1-3 seconds. I started the bike, and Warning Light still on......I checked headlight (hi and lo) and tail and brake lights and both appear to be working....I rode the bike and all seem well, but Warning Light still on. So, can anyone with a manual handy please let me know the reasons the warning light would stay on... My best guess is a burned out tail light that is being 'fixed' by the bike by it lighting up the brake light, making it hard for me to tell that the tail light is out. Only reason that makes no sense is that my bike is a 2002 with only 2600+ miles on the clock. Any idea would be great. I'm looking up Bob's BMW in Maryland as I type to call them up and see if they are open today. Thanks mike

Hi morkm
From my (german) manual: ABS light = left light Triangle + ! = right light Left ¦ Right out ¦ solid on = Back/brake light is defective 1HZ blink¦ solid on = At least one brake curcuit has no ABS 4HZ blink¦ solid on = At least one brake curcuit has REST brake Hope this is clear and helps Cheers

Thanks Webby
I was able to find an open shop and they fixed the rear brake light for me. I remembered that one of the symptions for getting a solid warning light was having a bulb out, but I also remembered that if the tail light on our bikes goes out, the brake light is given a smaller amount of juice and 'replaces' the tail light, so we're never caught out without a tail light. Anyway, the shop got me in and fixed it up and didn't charge me a dime...I don't know one way or the other if the bulb is covered under warranty, but I thought it was pretty nice of them. The shop is Battley Cycles in Gaithersburg, MD. Don't know if anyone else has had dealings with them, but I must say I rode out happy...especially considering it's a Harley-Davidson shop. They didn't have any new BMW's for sale, but they did have a few used ones about and they do wrench BM's. So, 2600 miles and the tail light burned out....hmmmm....oh well, hopefully this new one will last a bit longer. mike
