Tall BMW Windshield vs Cee Bailey
Does anyone have a photo that shows the differences between the $313 BMW Tall Windshiled and the $140 Cee Baileys Windshield?
To me, looking at Cee Bailey's website, their windshield looks totally different. I found this comparision between the Sport and Tall BMW windshields.... ![]() I really like the BMW shape, but I'd prefer to save $170 for something else. Even if you just have some good photos of a Cee Bailey 20" windshield installed, I'd like to see those. |

I have a CB 20''
Does a great job of keeping the wind off my chest. I'm 5'10'' and get no buffeting at the helmet. ![]() ![]()

I don't know what you try to do but for me at 6'-2" the stock short screen has the best air flow and is the quietest of the four shields I have used.

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL................CeeBailey does NOT make that windshield anymore, I got the last one they produced.
The new one is a completely different profile, I will hobble out in the daylight tomorrow and get a pic. The bcr came with the short shield, and it is pretty good, but I wanted a little more protection for all day rides/rain/cold. I bought a CeeBailey and liked it alot. Well my track day in the rain, slide into 3rd (turn 3) took care of that. I put the OEM short on again, but wanted a little bigger air pocket. I bought a MRA touring screen, looks nice, real nice still air pocket, but it put the windstream mid helmet (I am 6'1") and made my current helmet VERY noisy. So I ordered a CeeBailey to replace the original, they called and said that they had the screen ready, BUT they had just redesigned it, an wanted me to have the new design. I agreed to go with the new design after talking with the guy that designs them and he had a, from the saddle of a S review. He then said they would just scrap the already made "old style" so he said he would give me a great deal on both. That said, the new CB is superior for protection, nice big quiet pocket behind the screen no buffeting, it is a great touring shield. put the air stream at the top of the helmet. But a little too much tour, too little sport, so i put the old style on. The old style wind-stream hits me just below the shoulders and helmet, letting the helmet aerodynamics work for themselves, and making the chest vents on my coat actually function. That said, I do have the MRA, and the CB new style just sitting in the barn, I would make you a great deal on either.

The CB I have I had to cut the top 4" off it was so noisy. Even whacked down, it's not as quiet as the stock screen - but it does keep the wind of my chest. I may take another 1" off before the next trip and see how that goes.

Sounds like I should be thankful for what I have. I am 6'-1" tall with only a 32" inseam, so I think I'm mostly torso.
I still would like to try one. I'll probably end up buying a 17" BMW screen (I have a line I one I hope), as long as it's not too much money. Thanks for the info gentlemen, and the pictures. Becker aka HellFishTat |

I'm 5'9" but I'm not so vain as to sit around measuring my torso
I have a 31" inseam though if that helps. My shield started off as a "tall" CB and I had it whacked down to just above the reverse lip. It's over my wife's shoulder in this pic. It looks like it needs about 4 more inches taken off. Ugh, fugly. Her CB - BTW - is b1tchin' and why I bought one off the forum for my R11S and was disappointed. ![]()

I've been lurking around about this idea for sometime now, interesting to see a new thread on the subject.
My 04'S has the factory tall screen, and it seems to work pretty well for me...but. At 6'2" I also have a 30 inch inseam, and with RD's barbacks I sit fairly tall in the saddle. (Please hold the apehangers comments, I've heard a few!) After 10 years on Ducati 900's, I am somewhat used to taking a fair bit of wind, but sometimes the stock screen does seem a bit low. I'm too thrifty (aka CHEAP) to just buy and store aftermarket screens, so I've been a little reluctant to shell out money for something that may or may not work. Had a CeeBailey on the R1150R that I rode for a couple of years, and I know they make a quality product. It will be interesting to hear comments and see photos of the new style CB screen if anyone here should happen to mount one on an 11S. And NO I don't want to buy an RT! LOL My riding season in the Great Pacific Northwet is a bit abbreviated by the weather (and a health condition). It might extend my season a bit more if I could find a screen with a modicum more coverage. Thanks for listening to my ramblings! ![]() Cheers! |

PS. Kraut.Burner...thanks for the photos of the 20 inch CB. I was thinking of the 22 inch, but now it seems they've changed the design. BTW, you have the best color scheme on your S!

I will take comparison shots today to show the difference.

I am also 6'2" and the taller (15") windscreen that came on my bike was a menace. I knew when riding that if I poke my head UP more that it was nice and smooth airflow. Just bought a nice stock size windscreen (12" for a cool $110 and tinted) and it's a world of difference.....quieter, and much better airflow, not to mention looks a ton better.

Sometimes more windshild height is not the answer for smooth/clean/quiet airflow.
Have you thought about a Laminar Lip for your existing windscreen? ![]() |

[QUOTE="A";6622533]Sometimes more windshild height is not the answer for smooth/clean/quiet airflow.
Have you thought about a Laminar Lip for your existing windscreen? @'A", For me the issue is not smooth airflow, I'd just like more coverage. My stock, tall screen is plenty smooth, just too low. A friend has the LL on his K12S, and it's a nice addition to his machine. I'm not only tall, and long-torsoed, but I'm also sorta "big". LOL But thanks for the suggestion! @PFFOG, Pictures would be REALLY helpful...thanks! I wasn't aware that CB had changed the screen style until I saw your posting... Cheers, Bill J |

BTW,..anybody consider a Z-Technik polycarbonite wind screen ? The science of shape rather than height. Clear or smoked,..around a buck & 1/2.

OK, pictures were the best I could do. Still on crutches, so had to take pics in the corner of the barn where the beast is hibernating.
The BEST pics of the old style are the ones Kraut posted above, that is what the one mounted on mine is too, it is 18 1/2 tall Below is the MRA, Like I said, it looks the best and has a nice pocket behind it, If I didn't have the original CB, this would still be on the bike. My only complaint, the airstream hit me mid helmet and made my current lid LOUD. Torso wise sitting on a chair I measure 36" to the top of my head, I did have RD's barbacks on when tested. It is short but the lip kicks the airflow up nicely. ![]()

This is the NEW CB 20" sport tour shield. Nice BIG air pocket, but a little too much protection for the slow speed twisty stuff I frequent. Should I want to ride to St Louis for the weekend, this would be my choice.
You can see the old style CB, raked back ( it put the wind stream just below my shoulders) the new curves up at the trailing edge, kicking the air up and over. This is the one pictured on the CB site. ![]()

Richard,
Thanks very much for making the effort to post some photos... Looks to me like the MRA has a pretty extreme shape that would increase coverage, but at the same time create a lot of turbulence. I think the CB would flow a bit more smoothly. Maybe I'll just get a tall one of those, and trim it down "if" it's too turbulent. ![]() On my short, close to home rides, I don't mind at all the extra ventilation with my current BMW tall screen. When I have the chance, I do some semi-long distance riding. It is 800 plus miles to my brothers house in Nevada, and on a one day ride that far I get a bit tired of the windblast! LOL Hope you can put the crutches away SOON! Cheers, Bill J ![]() |

Oh, the new one looks like the shield on my wife's F800S (pictured above).
