Thanks Joe......The motor work consisted of new high compression pistons from San Jose BMW, Lennie's advanced cam sprockets, extensive head and port work by John Parker Racing here in Toronto, Vauderlinde pipes and chip, bigger air duct, 5 degrees of ignition advance and a TPS adjustment to erradicate a serious throttle roll-off backfire. Pretty much every part of this beemer has been worked over, as it sits today the bike is worth approx. $40K......I absolutely love this motorcycle.

Wow!! Nice lookin bike no doubt. But $1000-$2000 for every once of extra horsepower! Impressive in a different light.

Carlos.......As much as I'd love a Busa, I really don't need one. One of my other project bikes is a 200rwhp+ Muzzy/Kawasaki ZX1270......Trust me, hp I don't need it's a touch of class that was lacking, hense the BMW project.
Go ahead Joe, throw up the 12 pics for me will ya. Cheers, Cliff |

well as a fellow rider who also has gone to the extremes with my own bike all I can say is I love it. I hope to see it at the Trenton rally. BTW what amount of torque are you putting down? I love the colour scheme and from the lowered profile of the bike I'm sure it handles much better than the standard setup in terms of race track performance and back road fun.

Cliff, that is very, very sweet. Not cost effective as others have pointed out, but it is unusual and very, very nicely done. Congrats on a great job.
I could see this baby in the American Flyers sections in CycleWorld. Get with me offline if you need a contract there. - Mark (markjenn@flywheelsystems.com) |

To get that lowered look I bet it was at the expense of wheel travel and loss of ground clarence. In other words a stock "S" would eat it up on a road course. I know Cliff was not making a RR bike it's a show performance looking bike as Mark mentioned American Flyers material IMO. Cliff I'll post the ZX12 when I get on my home puter.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments........Yes, the bike has been lowered to acheive the right look, (which in my opinion is the only look for a street riden bike), make no mistake, (forget the 20+ rwhp difference), there is still enough ground clearance remaining in this beauty to flog a stock S like a cheap rug. And if it's the track you want, we simply dial up the front and rear shock heights accordingly.
The SS will be on display in the BMW booth at the upcoming International Rally in Trenton Ontario in July. As good as it looks, wait till you hear it roar..........See you there. Cheers, Cliff |

Thanks Joe.......The 12 simply unreal, capably of well over 200mph, geared accordingly.
I have not run it thru a 1/4 mi., but in the right hands, (so I'm told), it would turn a 9.15ish. With a bar you're in the 8's. You just haven't lived until you pull the trigger on something like this, it is beyond words. It makes 112 ft/lbs of Torque at 7K. Suspension is Ohlins rear end, full RaceTech front. Cheers, Cliff |

Thanks Brad........No detonation on the Beemer to-date. I usually chase each tank of Sunoco 94 with 8 oz of Klotz octane boost. That gives me about 96 octane. If I run into trouble this summer, (with the ambient heat levels rising), I'll retard the ignition accordingly somewhat. I run the bike with approx. 4-5 degrees of advance.

Congratulations Cliff on a job well done!! I have liked the paint work from the first moment I saw it. Unfortunately, since I live over the other side of the big pond there is no way I would be able to see this magnificent machine in the flesh.
I can understand why you used a S for a project like this, they are quite different to any of the usual bikes used and you certainly weren't chasing ultimate horsepower. WELL DONE TREVOR

Thanks Trevor, very kind of you to say so........You're right, there is something very special about this BMW project. I have built many bikes over the years but never have I seen such an overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic reaction like this. I'm convinced it has much to do with the rare yet extremely exciting statement this SS makes, all combined of course with BMW's honoured heritage as one of the finest motorcycles ever built. I've said this before but it deserves repeating; When set-up properly the S, (in my opinion), is one of the best Real World bikes you can buy.......Now add 20 rwhp along with some flash and I think we have a winner here!
