Good day all
Cant seem to get any spark on my r1100s - I was able to get it to start once - I was playin witht the side stand up and down... Is there a way to "bypass" the swtich to see if its the problem? |

If the bike is in neutral it shouldn't make any difference if the stand switch is playing up only when you click it into gear

that is what I though - but when i turn over the engine with a spanner on the front pully - it sends the signal to the fuel pump to go so i expect its not that?

If you have the sidestand up and hold the clutch in, will it start?

Do you mean the injectors as the fuel pump should come on when you turn the key and kill switch on.

Sorry turning the pully the fuel pump cycles -
Clutch in - Sidestand up - no start still I installed a laser chip a while back - and it worked flawlessly - i have heard if the motronic is not working or the chip is toast - the pump will run continuously. |

Ok let's back up a little. It's cranking over right. How did you test for spark? And how did you test for fuel flow?

To check the spark I removed one plug left side / grounded it - checked while turning it over..
for the fuel - I can smell the fuel - I expect that its injecting .... |

ok just went out it started! - it turns over slow - and it fired up -
shut it off - wont start.. .then a few minutes later - wont start again... weird.. The starter doesnt sound great - laboring - turning over - with a full battery - and then a few minutes later - it acts like the battery is dead... but it isnt? - |

Time to clean all battery and starter connections and grounds. Starter commuter may need attention, also. DC current likes good connections. If a connection is warm to the touch, it is probably the area that needs attention the most. Make sure there is not additional connector between the battery and the main power/ground cable.

hmmm like mind..
I checked the connections - everything is solid and new.. I did put a multimeter to the battery on startup - she drops to 10.5-10.6 volts - I already had the battery tested (as its new) and they found it was within limits for an Odyssey - I did a bench test of the starter - it was pulling between 7-14 amps running with no load.. - I also put the meter on the battery at the same time -and the voltage dropped down to 9.6v few times - with no load to turn over i would assume it would drop as much I am thinking that either the battery is actually toast - and when the voltage drops below 11volts there isnt enough juice to power the coil/plugs.. Or the start is actually toast and is drawing way too much power - hence intermittent starts and hard cranking - any thoughts?? Last edited by cndhavok; 05-27-2012 at 06:18 PM.. |

Put a known good 12v source on it and try to start. Jumper cables. If it starts right up you have a battery dropping voltage problem.

14 amps no load is high. If the battery is new I lay money on a bad starter. Are the brushes arcing and burnt?

The brushed dont look too bad -
When I tried to Jump it before... it would start - barely turn over - When I run the Power direct to the starter - Bypassing the Solenoid she drops a 1.5 volts.. Running though the solenoid - she drops to 3+ volts.. |
