Lol, there's a helluva lot of difference in an RT and a 1200S ! lolol
That is an unusual pair to be considering. Good luck with the RT. |

My wife had an R1150RT for a while. Her Speed Triple got to be too uncomfortable so she went to the extreme, right past the R1100S and to the RT. Big mistake and she kept that bike less than a year. While comfortable, the bike's fairing fairing is so efective she was burning up behind it. Cee Bailey's lowest windshield helped some, as did a BMW Venting Machine suit. We traded it for an R1200S for me and she took my R1100S. Now everyone is happy.

What can I say? I have varied riding interests that lead me on adventures across the western states. I needed a bike that was up for the task. Something that could handle wide open spaces and mountainous riding with equal success. The R1100s, although pretty, is not something you want to be two weeks out on.

I have the same year and love it!! The funny thing is I did not even want one...my wife wanted it, so I got it for her and offered to drive her around on it when ever she wanted to go for a ride...well a funny thing happened.....I fell in love with this thing...I ride it all the time.....but my Boxercup is still my favorite bike ever though.
Be safe, Lane

guess i should undo all those trips i've taken, as they must have either been impossible to acomplish, or just excrutiatingly dreadfull. Deal's Gap? nope, cross that off the list. much too far. ![]() Glacier NP? Must have been too cold to do it on a barely faired bike. ![]() Lochsa Wilderness Rd (US 12 in Idaho, Lolo Pass). yeah, no way for that one either. ![]() no idea how we ever managed the Moki Dugway in Utah, as we really should have been on some GS bikes for that. ![]() in fact, i probably could not have ridden to most of these places. ![]() Truly, i wonder how the hell i managed all that on a bike that is obviously "just a pretty face". rw- enjoy your RT, not a thing wrong with it- but you really should not discount the ability of the R1100S, one of BMW's most flexible, and beautiful, bikes ever conceived.

I have both S and 1100RT. For RT, it's love and hate relationship with my ongoing affair with S. But, surely don't want to get rid of the RT. It has its charm and remarkably agile. Enjoy your RT until your next desire. You will like it with its comfy sitting position.

Bikerfish: You're a better man than I. After many similar trips on my old RSL, I finally went for comfort over cool (not that my bike was as cool as an S).

i find the "sit up and beg" position of the RT to be much less comfortable than the S's forward-leaning position.
whatever works for ya, eh?

What difference does any of it make...
Didn't go for it, oh well... there's only 1,000 other type bikes in the world. (Just can't be a member of the club now...)
